SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT SHARING DOCUMENTS THROUGHSOCIAL MEDIA
Documents are stiff, static, and you can only share them by sending an attachment in an email… until now! You CAN share important information in a document via social media AND maintain the integrity of the document format, design and content
What kind of documents should my command share? Any that you normally provide to the public! What type of documents can I upload & share?
To upload documents to sharing site: Browse popular document sharing sites and select one you prefer based on ease of use, familiarity, etc. SlideShare, http://www.slideshare.net/ Scribd, http://www.scribd.com/ ISSUU, http://issuu.com/ Create an account Ensure the document(s) you wish to share are approved for public release—UNCLASSIFIED and NOT FOUO Upload document and add title and tag information to appropriately categorize Uploading documents to one of these sites makes these documents public and searchable.
Now you are ready to share!
Post link from document sharing site on Facebook, Twitter or other site This is a great guide for Navy family members and ombudsman on why you should use social media and how to do so safely! Upload the document to a sharing site (SlideShare/Scribd) Copy the URL Paste (or “attach”) the URL to your post Add an additional note explaining what the document is and why people should open & read it!
Embed documents into your website and blog posts to be viewed directly on that site The Huffington Post grabbed our snapshot on Customer Service and embedded it directly into a story!
Embedding documents is just like embedding videos from YouTube Go to the document sharing site (in this case, Military Health System’s Scribd account) Copy the embed code Paste the embed code where you want the document to appear (in your blog or website editor—you may need to select the “HTML” view before pasting to ensure the embed works properly

Let your Facebook fans know where to find your documents by adding an application to your wall *Each application is different* To add the SlideShare application to your Facebook Page… Go to the SlideShare application, http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=2490221586&v=wall Select “Add to my Page” Select the Page you wish to add it to (if you administer more than one page) Go to your page and the go to the new SlideShare tab Select the “Sync SlideShare.net Account” button and enter your SlideShare account details
To add ISSUU app to your Facebook page… Go to the Publisher application, http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=8711554561 (Note, there is currently no ISSUU application we know of, so you should use this application if you use ISSUU for document sharing) Select “Add to my Page” button Select the page you want to add it to (if you administer more than one page) Go to your page and link the application to your ISSUU account We are not aware of any current Scribd applications for Facebook (let us know if you find one!)
Document sharing sites provide many applications for sharing documents on all platforms Add badges to your website to notify users and allow them to click through to your documents Add widgets to your website or blog so viewers can preview your documents and link to your account Download and offer mobile applications so Navy community members can access your documents on the go
Not everyone will always be able to access the documents you share due to network constraints Make sure important content you wish to share is also posted to your “notes” section on Facebook When you write a new note, you can add formatting such as hyperlinks and bolding by selecting this link and using the HTML formatting tips provided here. >>>>>>>>>
