Regents’ Scholarship

Regents’ Scholarship - Overview
Established in 2008
Defines broad-based rigorous core of high school courses to help prepare students for college beyond high school graduation requirements
emphasizes math and science
Based on nationally-recognized foundational core
Tiered award
Base: up to $1,000
Exemplary: up to $75% of tuition for four semesters*
*changes to flat dollar award for class of 2011 & beyond
UESP: up to $400 based on contributions to the student’s UESP account
2009-2010 application deadline: February 1, 2010

New Century Scholarship

New Century - Overview
Established in 1999
Goal is to efficiently accelerate the college experience
Associate degree by September 1st following high school graduation
Up to 75% of tuition for four semesters

New Century - Overview
SB 23 (Sen. Valentine) – clarifies requirements and administrative procedures
Phases in new requirements
High School GPA 3.5
Complete Associate Degree by date of high school graduation
This year’s high school seniors minimally affected by changes
Application deadlines
Full-time enrollment the fall semester after high school graduation (or obtain an approved deferral)
Cannot stack with Regents’ Scholarship Base award

No mechanism in place to anticipate new applicants/renewals

Qualified participants received full awards at 75% of tuition for Fall and Spring semesters
Clearly communicated funding uncertainty for next academic year and encouraged students to seek other financial aid opportunities
Implemented first-ever application deadline for new and renewing students (January 8, 2010)
