USHE Scholarships
State Board of Regents administers two scholarship programs established by the Legislature:
Regents’ Scholarship
New Century Scholarship
Both are popular, which means
funding remains a challenge.

Regents’ Scholarship: Overview
Established in 2008
Encourages students to prepare for college academically and financially by taking a core course of study during grades 9-12
Based on nationally-recognized foundational core
-Student’s must also meet minimum GPA, individual grade and ACT requirements, application and required documentation deadlines
Tiered Award
Base: One-time of up to $1,000
Exemplary: Flat dollar Maximum of $1250 (Renewable for up to 4 semesters)
UESP: One-time up to $400 based on contributions to the student’s UESP account during ages 14-17

In the 2010 session, the Legislature provided $500,000 of new, on-going fundingThis enabled:
Base Award at $1000
Exemplary Renewable Award 70% of tuition for 2010-2011 academic year

New Century: Overview
Established in 1999
Encourages students to accelerate the college experience
Students must now earn a high school GPA of 3.5 and an Associate’s degree by high school graduation
-Students must also meet application and required documentation deadlines
Students may also qualify by completing approved math and science curriculum
Award: Flat dollar Maximum of $1250 (Renewable for up to 4 semesters)

New Century: 2010 Recipients: Overview

This was the first year with an application deadline of January 8, 2010
Applicants had until September 1, 2010 to complete an Associate’s degree
Applicants were required to submit final transcripts and proof of fall semester enrollment by October 15, 2010

In the 2010 session, the Legislature provided $3,850,000 one-time funding
This enabled: New and Renewable Awards of 70% of tuition for 2010-2011 academic year

New Century: 2011 Program Changes
2010 Legislative Session (sponsored by Sen. Valentine) made significant changes for graduating Class of 2011 and beyond to make the program more fiscally sustainable:
-Earn an Associate’s degree or complete the Math and Science curriculum by high school graduation
-Earn high school GPA of 3.5/26 ACT for home school
-Application and required documents deadlines
-Enroll immediately fall semester following HS graduation
Over the past year, Commissioner’s office has made several administrative improvements:
Improved tracking of student participants(Deferrals and LOA)
Thorough review of continuing students’ eligibility
Implementation of continuing student renewal deadlines each semester and continuous enrollment
