As we enjoy the holiday weekend in memory of what our presidents have done for us, it is important to never lose sight of safety. Area I Soldiers, Civilians and Family members should remind others that anyone can prevent an accident from occurring by conducting continuous hazard assessments. Intense efforts by all personnel to identify, evaluate, plan and mitigate hazards will inspire others to do the same. Thorough continuous hazard monitoring both on and off duty this holiday, accidents will be prevented. 2. The objective for this holiday weekend is for each Soldier and US Civilian employee to have a memorable holiday and return to work safely. To help ensure this, Commanders, directors and activity leaders will brief the following prior to commencement of the holiday period: a. The USAG Red Cloud and Area I Winter Safety Campaign requirements. This should include the use of CRM (Composite Risk Management) in all activities both on duty and off duty. b. Vehicle operators should check road conditions before departure, use self-discipline by obeying traffic rules, and grant courtesy to merging traffic. c. Seat belts should be worn by all passengers in a moving vehicle. d. Demonstrations and off limit areas should he avoided. e. Composite Risk Management needs to be applied to all recreational sports and activities. g. Drug/alcohol abuse detracts from personnel readiness and the ability to prevent accidents. h. Exercise the buddy system and use on-post recreational activities and bus travel when available. 1. Be aware of your surroundings and stop all unsafe acts. 3.
