5. Some stats and facts..
South Africa has the highest reported incident of rape in the
world.
In 1998, one in three of the 4,000 women questioned in
JHB was raped
More than 25% of a sample of 1,738 South African men
from the KZN and EASTERN CAPE Provinces admitted to
raping someone when anonymously questioned, and nearly
one in ten admitted doing so before the age of 10
It is estimated that over 40% of South African women will be
raped in their lifetime and that only 1 in 9 rapes are reported
Many men and women say that rape cannot occur in
relationships; however, one in four women reported having
been abused by an intimate partner.
