SELLING SOLAR LIGHTS: TECHNOLOGY AND FINANCE

Like the exponential growth of any demand-sector; in the renewable energy sector also, the
private investment is vital for enhancing the market access for clean energy and crucial to
achieve the next stage of energy independence.
In this regard, Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ), Germany
and MNRE has developed a bilateral technical co-operation collaboration, “Indo-German Energy
Program - Renewable Energy Component” (IGEN-RE).BMZ has commissioned GIZ with the
implementation of the project. The overall aim of this project is to improve the conditions for
private investment in providing access to clean energy in rural areas from renewable energy
As a part of the IGEN-RE program, GIZ has entered into an agreement with the Uttarakhand
Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) to help strengthen the various schemes being
implemented by them to promote clean energy solutions in rural areas.
With the aforementioned backdrop, Centre for Management Development, with support of
GIZ and UREDA are conducting training program on Approaches to Clean Energy Market Access
Enhancement for Para Technicians and Akshay Urja shop owners in Uttarakhand. This program
has been developed based on the lessons from the Selco experience in Karnataka; also aim to
familiarize the participants with the more recent experience of a Selco inclubate, BOOND in
Rajasthan. The aim is to make them learn about the Selco business model, which is based on 03
pillars-customised solutions, door-step financing and strong after sales support. The two
categories of stakeholders will be able to prove as a link for the better use of renewable energy
and better clean energy market access.
