  • 2. Academic Impact Institutions of higher education United Nations Academic Impact is a global initiative that aligns with in actively supporting ten universally accepted principles in the areas of: Human rights Literacy Sustainability Conflict resolution
  • 3. Academic Impact Ten universally accepted principles: Principles inherent in the United Nations Charter as values that education seeks to promote and help fulfil; Human rights, among them freedom of inquiry, opinion, and speech; Educational opportunity for all people regardless of gender, race, religion and ethnicity; Opportunity for every interested individual to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for the pursuit of higher education; 1. 2. 3. 4.

Academic Impact Building capacity in higher education systems across the world; Encouraging global citizenship through education; Advancing peace and conflict resolution through education; Addressing issues of poverty through education; Promoting sustainability through education; Promoting inter-cultural dialogue and understanding, and the “unlearning”of intolerance, through education; 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  • 5. Academic Impact What does it mean to actively support? Undertaking one new activity each year, to actively address at least one of the ten basic principles of Academic Impact (research projects and papers, hosting of a conference, financing of participation of students in a specific United Nations activity in the field);* Placing prominently upon its websites, or in periodic printed publications, details of such activity, highlighting its relationship to Academic Impact; a) b)
  • 6. Academic Impact Who can join? It is open to all institutions of higher education granting degrees or their equivalent, as well as bodies whose substantive responsilibities relate to the conduct of research
  • 7. Academic Impact What is the purpose? To create a global network of institutions of higher learning linked with the United Nations; To provide a mechanism for institutions to commit themselves to the principles of the United Nations; To serve as a point of contact for ideas and proposals relevant to the United Nations mandate; To promote the engagement of institutions of higher education in programs, projects and initiatives relevant to the United Nations mandate;
