UNMC/UNDP Rio 20 Focus• A process and outcome that: is genuinely participatory & secures sustainable human development based on inclusive and equitable pro-poor growth enables accelerated achievement of the MDGs and supports beyond 2015 process to design future development goals built on SDThe transition towards a just society (incl. green economy) provides opportunitiesto promote long-term sustainable pro-poor growth, create decent jobs and henceeradicate poverty (incl. achieving the MDGs and beyond). Obviously, the voice &demands of the poor have to be taken into account.

Key Questions: realizing sustainable human development• How can livelihoods be secured in the midst of global challenges*? resilient and inclusive development• How can inclusive pro-poor growth and poverty eradication be fostered within a resource constrained world? equitable & efficient low emission development/green economy *A number of Crisis: Lack of delivery of MDGs, Economic, Climate Change, Energy Poverty & Security, Food Security, Excessive unsustainable consumption, Population growth, Lack of adequate political commitment, institutional arrangements & finance for sustainable development,

Role of CSOs & MAJOR GROUPS in Rio+20 Process & Conference• Commitment by UNMC/UNDP to ‘convene, catalyze and support: Strong role & participation of citizens groups at national, regional & global levels to: generate useful knowledge and recommendations shape & advocate for the countries’/region’s agenda serve as technical support to delegations monitor and influence discussions and resulting outcomes organize events that showcase or share the countries’/region’s interests, concerns, knowledge and experiences
