  • WHY? Healthfields
    Health Disparities – Zip codes with higher poverty rates often have both lack of health facilities and wealth of vacant brownfield sites.
    Turning brownfields into an asset for redevelopment – can thepublic money we invest in brownfield clean-up and marketing serve us better if it increases access to care, healthy food, safe recreation, community support networks?
    Bringing health resources – clinics, state and federal funding for healthy infrastructure – to the table
    Mobilizing community residents to make things happen

    Complete streets – bikeways and traffic calming in core of 22nd Ave
    Grocery store and attached retail – DESIRED, but not an easy deal to make.

    Non-profit clinics seeking out brownfields to redevelop
    State regulators with a backlog of sites to unload
    City, county and regional economic development officials
    Resident-led organizations – Community Redevelopment Authority in E. Tampa, Groundworks Trusts
