ECGD <ul><li>ECGD is UK’s official export credit agency </li></ul><ul><li>Separate Government Department with its own Act of Parliament </li></ul><ul><li>Reports to Lord Green and Dr Cable </li></ul><ul><li>Set-up in 1919. Oldest ECA and most experienced </li></ul><ul><li>ECGD’s role is to help UK companies to export and invest overseas by providing insurance and guarantees against payment risks </li></ul><ul><li>ECGD complements and does not compete with the private sector </li></ul><ul><li>2010-2011 insurance and guarantees of £3bn issued and earned premium of £90m </li></ul><ul><li>200 staff and located in London Docklands </li></ul>
  • 3. EXPORT INSURANCE POLICY <ul><li>One off credit insurance policy covers: </li></ul><ul><li>insolvency of the buyer; </li></ul><ul><li>the buyer’s failure to pay any amount due under the insured contract within six months of its due date; </li></ul><ul><li>the buyer’s failure to meet its obligations under the insured contract; </li></ul><ul><li>political, economic or administrative events outside the UK that prevent payments from the buyer under the insured contract being converted into sterling or transferred to the UK; </li></ul><ul><li>hostilities or civil disturbances outside the UK that affect performance of the insured contract. </li></ul><ul><li>Contracts low as £20,000 can be insured. Up to 95% cover is provided to </li></ul><ul><li>exporter. </li></ul>

BUYER CREDIT <ul><li>Under a buyer credit facility we provide a guarantee to a bank that makes a loan to an overseas buyer to finance the purchase of capital goods and/or services, worth at least £5 million from an exporter carrying on business in the UK. </li></ul><ul><li>Loans can be made in the main trading currencies (including sterling, US dollars and euro) as well as some local currencies. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>The advantage for the exporter is that it is paid cash out of the loan. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul><ul><li>We can provide loans to overseas corporates, sovereigns, public buyers and for projects where there is a Special Purpose Company </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
