How to Pack Goods for Shipment
1. How to Pack Goods for Shipment
When shipping goods whether
locally or overseas, it is
important to ensure that your
shipment is properly packed.
Proper packing will not only
allow you to get cheaper
shipment quotes but it will
also keep your package safe
while it is being shipped.
1. Use a box which has
enough space to put
cushioning materials around
your items. If you're reusing
boxes, make sure to cover
previous labels and mark with
adhesive labels or black
marker.
2. Avoid wrapping packages with paper or binding them with twine. The paper and the
twine can either get ripped during handling or get stocked in the conveyor belt.
3. Don't forget to enclose an address label, letterhead with the shipper's contact details,
and business card as well as the recipient's address and contact details inside the
package. This will ensure that even if the outer packaging gets damaged along with the
external address label, the shipper can still get the return information. You may also
consider putting a return address on at least two sides of the box.
4. Use a box of the right size. A small sized box does not have enough room cushioning.
On the other hand, a box that is too big leaves excess room for your shipment and may
cost you a surcharge.
5. Wrap fragile items individually with a cushioning material and place them at the center of
the box away from the corners, sides top and bottom of the box and from other items
inside the box.
6. When shipping bottled liquids, use an inner seal as well as a perforated breakaway cap.
Make sure that the inner packaging material you use can contain leaks.
