  • 1. Enhancement Of Self-Esteem Through Positive Thinking And Confident Attitude Self-Esteem Self-esteem is an evaluative component of self-concept and judgment of one’s own worthiness. In a broader notion, it refers to emotional evaluation of who we are and how we might describe ourselves. Self-esteem is an essential human need and vital for healthy survival. It is closely associated with self-consciousness and determines the state of mental health. Having high self esteem means, having the feeling of confidence and tending to lead a happy and successful life. The positive or negative life experiences create attitudes towards the self. Favorable experiences build positive feelings of self-worth; whereas unfavorable ones build negative feelings of self-worth. Parenting style and childhood experiences play a crucial role in shaping self-esteem. Our internal image is created based on our interactions, signals and feedback that we receive from others and then from our performance. Low Self-Esteem and Its Consequences: Low self-esteem is a negative emotional evaluation of oneself. A person with low selfesteem feels upset, unworthy, incapable, incompetent and emotionally blocked. Low selfesteem worsens by existing mental health problems, such as a panic disorder or schizophrenia and the pressure of these symptoms shows impact on the way you see yourself. People may cover it with the mask of happiness and success but are terrified of failure. Consequences of Low Self-Esteem       Gives a negative view of life Causes stress, anxiety, loneliness, depression and fear of taking risks Incorporates blaming behavior and tendency to mistrust others Affects friendship, romantic relationship and gives a feeling of being unloved Impairs academic and job performance Leads to drug and alcohol abuse
  • 2.  Instills tendency of dependence and thus allows others to make decision for you Worst of all, these devastating consequences are themselves self-destructive and can take a person into a worse situation of low self-esteem. To counteract these constant distressing thoughts and negative feelings, one should face positive external experiences or develop high self-esteem. Powerful Tips To Boost Self Esteem 1. Stop comparing yourself with others: Usually we tend to judge ourselves by comparing with other successful people and feel inadequate by comparing accomplishments of others. This may hold you back from improving your self esteem. One thing we need to realize here is that, we have no idea about the reality of what circumstances and conditions made others successful. Hence throw such feelings out of the window and stop underestimating yourself by seeing others’ success. Instead, search yourself in-depth to find out unique and amazing qualities that underlie within you. 2. Build a Confident Attitude: The attitude of confidence is vital in every aspect of life. Fear is the biggest obstacle that pulls back your confidence. Set aside all your emotions and fear and dive right into the core of the problem. Focus on your strengths rather than on your weaknesses. Look for your strengths and tap your back for all your amazing qualities. List all your past success and celebrate your qualities. Help the needy. The more you spread the positive attitude, the more you grow. This leads to eventual gaining of confident attitude which in turn develops self-esteem as both of them go hand in hand. Self-confident people boost the confidence and selfesteem of others and inspire them. 3. Feed yourself with positive thoughts: Thinking affects almost everything in your life. If you believe you can succeed, you will; if you think you are a failure, you will fail, that is the power of thinking. Positive thinking leads to optimistic lifestyle. All human beings without exception, experience negative thinking at different times. The problem arises when it persists. Constant negative thinking reinforces the feeling of low self-esteem. Always make expectations, which are realistic and focus on the facts. Move with supportive light and associate with positive people instead of spending time with unpleasant surroundings filled with negative thoughts.
