Background <ul><ul><li>Traveline was set up in 2000 in a response to Government Challenge </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Traveline is a series of partnerships between operators and local government </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Traveline is supported centrally by a National Director and Data Co-ordinator </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Traveline’s Main Activities are: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Data collation and management </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Call centres, web and other channels for service delivery </li></ul></ul></ul>

What has changed since 2000? <ul><ul><li>Initially phone-based now e-channels dominate </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Original organisation determined by existing structures and the desire to re-use, now economies and efficiencies are sought </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Limits on data collection and journey planning dictated many regions, now development of effective services across multi-regions </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Data collection set up largely for Traveline, now numerous and diverse uses </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Data ownership and IPR not a major issue and no requirement (or desire to share data) now many potential partners </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Regional structures have been largely effective, national structures have proved difficult </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Many stakeholders have expressed the desire for change but no single, common view of what/how/when etc </li></ul></ul>

Short-term Issues (to 31-3-2010) <ul><ul><li>Need to clarify the purpose and form that Traveline requires over the medium to long term </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Initial discussions with stakeholders have determined that the precise future role for central organisation must follow a wider review </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Stakeholders are united in their desire to define the role in the wider context of the travel information landscape </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The recent illness and death of the National Director means that interim arrangements require to be put in place until the strategy review has reached at least initial conclusions </li></ul></ul>

Short-term Issues 2 <ul><ul><li>The following interim arrangements are proposed: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Peter Stoner to lead with support from CPT and DfT </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Additional support to be obtained for Peter on a 2 to 3 day a week basis to assist with agreed tasks </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Candidates approached with experience of the industry and/or Traveline </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Support to be sought from the wider Traveline community in areas such as the call plan and finance </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>The above arrangements to be in place for at least the rest of 2009 </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Procured via CPT mechanisms and funded via INTRASOL </li></ul></ul></ul>

Short-term Issues 3 <ul><ul><li>Full job description for National Director to be based on existing duties plus strategic direction from key stakeholders </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Advisory Group agreed on July 15 th to set up a strategic review of public transport information services </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>This review will have a wider remit than Traveline but its conclusions will affect the Director’s remit </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The National Database has been endorsed as a good idea and the desire for a National Procurement Strategy has also been expressed </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Possibility that this may lead to journey planning and call centre efficiencies but wider considerations may also affect this </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>First Strategy Group meeting in early October, feed back to Board at October 28 th meeting </li></ul></ul>
