  • Archive Graduate Trainee: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew Sarah Cox
  • About the RBGK Archives
    • Includes papers relating to the history of Kew, such as the historical correspondence of the directors; Other items relating to the history of botany and gardening.
    • One of the most important botanical reference sources in the world. Includes letters from Charles Darwin, & notebooks and photographs of Victorian plant hunters.
    • The Archives are open to the public and anyone who has a genuine need to use the collections. Users vary from students and academics, to family historians and actors researching parts!
    • The Archives contain ‘official’ records of the Royal Botanic Gardens, and ‘private’ papers, which are not related specifically to Kew.
  • The Collections
    • Directors' Correspondence - scientific correspondence received 1841 to 1928, and Sir William Hooker's correspondence from before 1841 which he brought with him to Kew.
    • Miscellaneous Reports - bound volumes containing printed reports, correspondence and miscellaneous items, c. 1850 to 1928, relating to Kew's relations with botanic gardens and other organisations overseas.
    • Record Books, Inwards Books and Outwards Books - records of living material and seeds received at and despatched from Kew, dating from 1793 until the mid-twentieth century.
