  • 2. What is my purpose here today?
    • Why I picked this topic in particular?
    • Not to repeat a heated debate, but to try to come up with a solution to hindrances in our educational system by trying to combine most of the advantages of both sides of the debate.

  • 4. WHAT IS EDUCATION?
    • Definition/Purpose??

  • 5. PROBLEMS/ISSUES???? A POPULAR DEBATE OF AROUND HALF A MONTH AGO:
  • 6. ARE YOU/DO YOU HAVE A :
    • “ CHINESE” OR “EAST ASIAN” TIGER MOM?
  • 7. OR…
    • “ AMERICAN” OR “WESTERN” RABBIT/DOLPHIN/PANDA/LAMB MOM?
  • 8. WHICH ONE? EA Mom W Mom Advantages
    • Believes that hard work can allow a person to discover his or her potential.
    • The push for perfection earlier in life actually gets the kids to prepare for the future well.
    • Still can achieve great success without getting unhealthy or tired of screaming and scolding.
    • Kids are encouraged to discover their own interests on their own.
    Disadvantages
    • Direct feedback of feelings, though helpful, may sometimes may hurt a sensitive child.
    • Many people worry about the psychological effects, such as lowered self-esteem.
    • Some kids aren’t forced to work their hardest. They won’t find out their own capabilities.
    • Sometimes children need some intimidation to motivate them.
  • 9. A STORY: BATTLE HYMN OF THE TIGER MOTHER
    • They were never allowed to:
      • Attend a sleepover
      • Have a playdate
      • Be in a school play
      • Complain about not being a school play
      • Watch TV or play computer games
      • Choose their own extracurricular activities
      • Get any grade less than an A
      • Not be the #1 student in every subject except gym and drama
      • Play any instrument other than the piano or violin
      • Not play the piano or violin
      • Etc…..

      • Allow concentrations. Avoid Cram schools
    • Issue #2: Cutting Down Costs…
    • Solution:
      • Textbooks. Volunteer from parents.
    • Issue #3: Giving Teachers Incentives
    • Solution:
      • Regular teacher awarding systems, “scholarship” for outstanding teachers.
