Dyslexia and eye tracking Dyslexia and eye tracking Presentation Transcript

    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking 1 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim What are we trying to do?
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • Using Eye-Tracking we want to see, if there are differences in the visual patterns between children suffering from Dyslexia and/ or ADHD ( Attention- deficit/hyperactivity disorder and normal children.
      • Our questions:
      • How can we use Eye-Tracking to discover visual patterns in children
      • What stimuli could be interesting (reading, pictures etc.)
2 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • What Theories exist around Dyslexia and ADHD?
      • Little is known about those medical conditions. There are several theories, which identify different problems and causes.
      • Visual problems are one theory beside auditive and mental causes.
3 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • Aim of the Study:
      • analysing visual patterns of children during visual tasks
      • analysing possible differences in visual behaviour between children with dyslexia, children with ADHD and normal children
      • help develop a pre-school dyslexia diagnosis lab test
      • help develop/optimise existing therapeutic approaches
4 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • The experiment
5 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • Setting:
      • 2 Pretests
      • Testing in occupational therapy center with 6 children (different diagnosis or strength of symptoms)
      • Testing in school with 10 children
      • Interviews with therapists and teachers
6 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • The stimuli
7 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • 1: Text
      • Different reading levels need to be considered
      • We used normal text, text with mistakes, text/words without sense, text with missing words
8 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking 9 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking 10 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim The results with text stimulis: With Eye-Tracking we could see, that children who have problems with reading, have problems with reading.
    • Dyslexia, ADHD and Eye-Tracking
      • 1: Picture stimulis
      • In a second step we used stimulis that are used in diagnostics and therapy
11 Dr. Anikar Haseloff, University of Hohenheim
