    Notes on slide 1

This list shows that we see 131 students in 15 schools for NESD.   We have given NESD 2795 sessions this year, I am not sure how many of those were successful. But that is how many were scheduled. As we all know, in speech-language pathologists help children access their education. Without communication skills children cannot learn in a class room setting. In Canada, and specifically in Saskatchewan under the Human Rights Code Right to education 13 (1) Every person and every class of persons shall enjoy the right to education in any school, college, university or other institution or place of learning, vocational training or apprenticeship without discrimination on the basis of  prohibited ground other than age.   The SASLPA Code of ethics also states The ethical responsibilities of the members require that the welfare of those served professionally be considered paramount . This means that you do not place the avoidance of electronic media as high priority than the people that are being served by its usage.

Telepractice brings people together for face-to-face and collaborative interaction, from different locations, for the purpose of growth and support. Above is a sample of an on-line speech therapy student-focused model, which demonstrates key relationships that ensure the student will experience service excellence. Ongoing communication and collaboration strengthen the circle of care around this student.

    28. CASLPA’s Position of Telepractice The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) endorses the use of telepractice in both speech-language pathology and audiology as a means of improving access to services provided by fully qualified professionals. (Read paper for the conditions under which it is endorsed) CASLPA CASLPA members who provide services via telepractice are expected to adhere to the CASLPA Code of Ethics (2005) and privacy legislation and abide by guidelines established by the regulatory body of the province in which they reside. Members may provide services via telepractice if they determine that it is in the best interests of their clients. Members shall base telepractice on best evidence and encourage ongoing research in this field. Source: http://www.caslpa.ca/PDF/position%20papers/telepractice.pdf
