  • What is genre? • Genre is the category’s that films can be split up into. • Well-known genre’s include Horror, Romance, comedy, Science fiction, westerns etc.
  • Why is genre important? • It makes it easier to categorize the film. • Finding a production company will be easier because a well established genres get more money for production. • The audience know what to expect when they know the films genre. • It will be known when there is a gap in the market for different genres. • Categories have certain conventions that come with them making it easy to establish the genre.
  • Conventions of horror Dark lighting Old setting Gore Ghosts and fear of the unknown Hauntings Death Fear
  • Conventions of Westerns Cowboys Red Indians Gun fights Horses Specific clothing
  • Conventions of science fiction Aliens Future setting Metallic clothing Technology Space
