Hugh Peden PROFILE SUMMARY As an information technology professional with a focus on business results, I am skilled in strategic information technology planning, project management, business analysis, and organizational change management. With 21 years experience in the IT industry, I have demonstrated leadership capabilities through many years of managing high quality technical and business teams and have held senior positions within IT departments and consulting organizations in Canada and the United States. Throughout my career I have held roles that include Senior Project Manager, IT Manager and Senior IT / Business Consultant with responsibilities for formulating and managing large information technology investments. My career has covered a number of industry sectors including Energy, Mining, Pulp & Paper, Retail, Tourism, Transportation, and Publishing and I have hands-on experience implementing ERP, Document and Records Management,, GIS, Maintenance Management, and Production Management solutions. IT MANAGEMENT & STRATEGIC PLANNING IT Strategy – Historical Experiences / Storyeum Led consulting team that developed IT Strategic Plan for $54 million Vancouver-based tourist attraction, Storyeum, a 104,000 square-foot themed venue under the streets of historic Gastown. Developed solution alternatives, implementation scenarios, investment alternatives, budgets and cash flows, implementation strategies and risk mitigation plans. IT Manager, Distribution Services – BC Gas Utility Responsible for all aspects of Information Technology planning within the Distribution Services business unit comprised of over 500 employees performing core utility functions including mains and services construction, distribution system maintenance, and customer service activities. Responsible for ensuring application and desktop support agreements with the Corporate IT Department met requirements of business unit and that agreed upon service levels were maintained. Project portfolio of over $35 million included Mobile Data Dispatch, AM/FM/GIS; Work Management, Maintenance Management and Records Management initiatives. IT Strategy – Tourism British Columbia Provided methodology and plans, and assisted with, development of IT Strategic plan for one of Canada’s premier Destination Marketing Organizations – Tourism British Columbia. Participated and lead workshops, strategy sessions, and provided framework in which to prioritize IT investments. Electronic Document Management Strategic Study – Centra Gas Completed Electronic Document Management (EDM) Strategic Study for this client. Reviewed document usage, volumes and characteristics for all documents used in day-to-day construction and maintenance operations and conducted analysis of opportunities for EDM technology. Developed logical list of applications and facilitated prioritization of each; requirements analysis for top-priority applications; cost-benefit analysis for specific prioritized applications; and overall implementation plan. Hugh Peden PROFILE PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SOLUTION DELIVERY Product Code Re-Design and Implementation – Alderwoods Group Engaged by Alderwoods Group, a multi-national funeral services firm, to lead a team to design, develop, and implement standardized product codes across the corporation. Engagement included implementation of the new product codes at 750 locations across North America. Records Management Application Implementation – BC Gas Utility Responsible for all aspects of the Digitized Construction Records System (DCRS) project including project feasibility, business case, Board approval, application development, document conversion, and implementation. This two-year, $4,000,000, document management system initiative resulted in 2,000,000 service line documents being digitized and stored electronically and facilitated the closure of 17 Branch Offices SAP Plant Maintenance Implementation – BC Gas Utility Managed this $11.5 million initiative responsible for implementing a risk-based maintenance philosophy at this client and supporting that business through the implementation of SAP PM – further rolling out the ERP footprint at this client site. Responsible for all aspects of the implementation project including budgets, staffing, risk management, issue resolution, organizational readiness, change management and project approvals. Project consisted of approximately 15 staff divided into Technical, Change Management and Business User teams. Project also included integration with mobile data dispatch and facilities management systems via EAI middleware (MQ Series & Mercator). Project was completed in conjunction with an SAP 4.6 Upgrade project that significantly enhanced the complexity of the project. Production Management Implementation – Alberta Pacific Forest Industries Project managed the implementation of a $1,000,000 Unix-based Production Management System at Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries mill in Athabasca – the world’s largest single line kraft pulp mill. The scope of this initiative included order entry integration with corporate order entry; production planning and scheduling; real-time production tracking; warehouse inventory control, shipment planning, and integration with corporate shipment tracking applications Electronic Document Management Implementation(s) – BC Gas Utility Managed implementation of two document management implementations – one to manage over 15,000 electronic Engineering Drawings and the second to manage all departmental filing with a maintenance organization. Both implementations were approximately 6 months in duration and involved Documentum – a popular EDMS tool. BUSINESS ANALYSIS & CONSULTING Knowledge Management Project – Placer Dome Inc. Contracted by Placer Dome Group (PDG) as a Document and Records Management Specialist for their $8 million Knowledge Management Project. To date role has involved development of Knowledge Management “Road Map” comprised of a management evaluation system for over 55 individual KM initiatives as well as organization of those initiatives into a multi-year KM program. Developed the KM Project Implementation Methodology that details a standardized implementation approach for each KM initiative and leverages centralized technical resources with local business teams along with re-usable solution components. I have assisted in the development of the overall Knowledge Management Program Business Case as well as the Product Selection process that was ultimately won by Open Text. Hugh Peden PROFILE My efforts have been focused on development of business requirements for two selected Knowledge Management pilot projects - Legal Agreements Management and Work Procedures Management - their development within the Open Text Livelink environment and implementation. Electronic Document Management Business Case – BC Gas Utility Developed business case for $4 million records management application whose primary focus was to central management of all gas service records using document imaging technology. Developed (and realized) tangible benefits with savings of $1M per year. Business case approved by Executive and Board of Directors. Preventive Maintenance / Work Management Business Case – BC Gas Utility Managed development of business case for $11.6 million SAP PM/SM in support of this clients maintenance management and construction management business units. Alternative solutions, costs and benefits documented as part of this effort. Business case approved by Executive, Board of Directors, and local Utility Commission. Maintenance Management Strategy – BC Gas Utility Assisted maintenance department with complete review of existing maintenance management practices for this Utility and development, acceptance, and approval of a risk-based maintenance strategy. Also completed detailed requirements analysis to support maintenance strategy with a computerized maintenance management system. Maintenance Management Vendor Evaluation – H.A. Simons Developed Request for Information related to Maintenance Management application vendors. Issued to RFI to twenty- five vendors, evaluated responses, participated in selection of maintenance management system. Mobile Data Dispatch Feasibility Study – BC Gas Utility Assisted with the development of feasibility study associated with the centralization of dispatch operations through the use of mobile field work force technologies. Developed detailed implementation plan for pilot project. Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) Vendor Selection – BC Gas Utility Participated on this internal corporate team mandated to document EAI requirements within the organization, review current EAI products, and selection of product for this client. AM/FM/GIS Business Case & Product Selection –BC Gas Utility Oversight and direct participation as Sr. Business Analyst in development of business case for $15 million Automated Mapping / Facilities Management (AM/FM) initiative to integrate geographic and facilities data. Sought and received project approval from President, Board and subsequently developed Utility Commission application for funding. Developed project Terms of Reference, Software Vendor Evaluation and Phase 1 Implementation Request for Proposal. Reservation System Business Case & Requirements Analysis – Tourism BC Managed and participated in gathering of requirements, reviewing alternatives, and developing costs and benefits models for replacement reservation system for one of Canada’s premier Destination Marketing Organizations that generates $28 million in annual revenue through bookings of tourist products. Recommendations approved by Executive Committee. Presently working on IT Architecture, IT Application Strategy and Transition Plan for this client.
