  2. 2. What and where is the injury ?WHAT:Partial tearing of the ligamentAnkle joint is examined and moved incertainways, abnormal looseness (laxity) of the anklejoint occursYour ligaments are partially tornWHERE:Lateral part of the ankle
  3. 3. Bony Structures Involved Talus bone Tibia Fibula
  4. 4. Ligaments Involved Anterior Talofibular Ligament Posterior Talobifular ligament Calcaneofibular ligament
  5. 5. Initial Signs & Symptoms Moderate to severe pain Swelling and stiffness Minor bruising may be evident Decreased range of motion Possible instability Inability to walk in a normal fashion
  6. 6. Treatments RICE (2 days)  Rest  Ice  Compression  Elevation Range of motion exercises Stretching/Strengthening exercises Follow up with icing (pain and swelling goes away) Immobilization with air splint
  7. 7. Prognosis Grade 1 or 2 – 2-6 weeks, sometimes more depends if you’re doing your treatments and exercises. Your doctor will do a follow up and trainer to see how you are doing.
