This presentation looks into a critical issue to many Christians - was it possible for most of Earth's fossil-bearing sedimentary rock layers to be deposited during the global Flood of Noah's time

  • Dr_James_Robertson-ERP_Dr James Robertson, ERP Doctor -- Speaker -- Consultant -- Problem Solver at James A Robertson and Associates Regarding Martins comment -- refer my post of a few minutes ago and also:

The ONLY way the landforms we have today could be formed the way they are is with massive almost instantaneous activity -- a year is actually a LONG time for what we are talking about

The massive surface disruption of the earth, the massive deposition and erosion, the massive upthrusts all had to happen very rapidly indeed in order to overcome inertia, they cannot possibly have happened over dozens of years let alone hundreds or thousands or millions or billions of years -- it is simply NOT mechanically possible for the land forms that exist today to have formed any other way than a very high intensity global flood event coupled to massive surface disruption all happening during a period of perhaps a year at most

People who suggest otherwise are clearly NOT engineers and clearly do not have a practical understanding of physical laws and principles

Regarding the Olive leaf, Olive trees are extremely hardy and it is possible for a piece of Olive tree without roots to take root and grow quite easily under suitable conditions -- i have actually done this in practice -- transplanted a five foot tall Olive tree with no roots and it took root and grew

It is therefore entirely possible for a fragment of Olive tree to survive immersed in water for about twelve months and then take root and produce a leaf in a very short space of time once it came into contact with earth and air

Hope this answers your question adequately?

    Warm regards

  • Dr_James_Robertson-ERP_Dr James Robertson, ERP Doctor -- Speaker -- Consultant -- Problem Solver at James A Robertson and Associates Hi Tim

I suddenly received an email referring back to this discussion, not sure what triggered it

Basically the way I see it as an engineer the massive deposits and tectonic movements have to have happened very rapidly

Basic explanation as I see it is as follows:

    1. Very large ice object, such as found in Kuiper Belt impacts earth, knocks the earth off its axis and distorts its orbit around the Sun AND melts and floods the earth to a depth of thousands of meters

    2. Because flood waters now cover the earth and there are no basins -- tides form tidal Tsunami's that rip around the earth in continuous rotation scouring away and depositing massive amounts of material very very rapidly

    3. Depths of material deposited runs to thousands of meters in areas and the material at the bottom is compressed and turned into rock almost instantly

    4. Other tectonic movements occur, such as upthrust of Granite Domes, faulting and dykes and these displace and in some cases bake the rock

    5. Upthrust areas are rapidly eroded down by the tidal Tsunamis

    6. As a consequence of the tilting of the earth's axis the crust rotates to the new axial position but hysteresis causes the core to lag resulting in massive tearing of the crust forming the continents

    7. Continued drag causes the continents to separate VERY RAPIDLY resulting in massive almost instantaneous drainage that forms many of the erosion forms we see today, such as the Grand Canyon

    8. Continental plates collide forming the Andes, Rockies, Alps, Himalayan mountains, etc

    9. Earth stabilizes, people leave the survival vessel and in time migrate over the earth

    Hope this clarifies?

    Warm regards

  • TimH Tim Helble, Hydrologist at National Weather Service Martin,

You’ve certainly hit on the gist of the problem for young earth creationism. However, I prefer to say things a bit more diplomatically. Adherents to young earth creationism can be very bright people. I’ve met some who actually do have PhD degrees, just as it is claimed by the folks at Answers in Genesis. The point I’m making in the presentation is that they just haven’t thought through their beliefs about the Flood and considered whether it is even realistic for enough sediment to be transported laterally in a matter of days to form a single rock layer. I think it’s understandable for someone to step back and say ’Oh, all these rock layers were deposited by the Flood,’ because most people haven’t been taught how to think quantitatively. Even if a young earth believer realizes that transporting all the sediment to form a rock layer in a matter of days is physically unrealistic, there is still a major stumbling block in the form of a particular interpretation of Genesis 1-11. Many Christians are afraid that their whole values system will come tumbling down if they decide that young earth creationism and Flood geology in particular is false. As an old earth believing Christian, I believe this fear is unnecessary, but it does keep a lot of people trapped in a system that has no support in the physical world.

  • wttmartin9 Martin Watt But an olive tree survived so the dove could get a leaf to show it was all over. You have to be joking have you ever worked out how much soil would have to be created and moved by the flood. Your a total fruit cake 2 years ago

  • JamesARobertson JamesARobertson Hi Tim

Thank you for your comments, apologies for the delayed response, been out of town.

My assertion is that all visible rock on the surface and deposits to a depth of the order of some thousands of meters, up to at least 10,000 meters were ALL laid down during one massively catastrophic flood event that lasted for about a year and which was associated with massive tectonic upheaval

There are 11 presentations in the entire suite but I have not uploaded them to Slide Share yet, they need some modifications to present properly using SlideShare technology

They are all loaded on my YouTube site at http://www.youtube.com/user/ProofOfGlobalFlood

If you look at number 2 on Gold Mines and 3 on Sedimentary Rocks you will get a lot of the information although obviously the entire suite will give you the most comprehensive picture

Thank you for your questions, please do not hesitate to contact me again for more information :)

    Warm regards

  • TimH Tim Helble, Hydrologist at National Weather Service Hi James, Could you be a little more specific about what you mean by other possible explanations and interpretations? Are you referring to some kind of alternative to Austin and Snelling's subdivision of S.W. USA sedimentary layers into pre-Flood, early-Flood, and late Flood layers? Does your explanation/interpretation assume that the Grand Canyon layers aren't Flood deposits at all? So far, all I've seen in your Youtube videos are qualitative assertions -- nothing quantitative at all, but I'll keep watching. 3 years ago
