In The Amazing Spiderman 2, the opening scene starts off with this spider symbol. This is iconic
because everyone sees the symbol and realises it’s the Spiderman symbol. This shot just focuses
on this. We soon see the symbol move making us wonder what’s about to happen.
Here we find out why the spider was moving, it was because it was on Spiderman’s back while
he’s falling from above. We start to see his full outfit which is iconic as everyone knows what
Spiderman’s outfit looks like.
In the first screenshot it is hard to see but he just shot a web from his hand. This is what
Spiderman is known for. He then starts to swing from the web through the city with the camera
following him everywhere. There are multiple simple cuts to different camera angles to show
Spiderman moving. In the last shot the camera appears to be attached to Spiderman showing us
almost what he would be seeing.
Here we see the villain in this scene. We know he’s a villain because he has a scar on his head.
He’s driving a truck rather dangerously but he doesn’t seem to care. The close up on his face
shows us that he’s rather angry and doesn’t really care who gets hurt.
We see the police making there way to the villain. The camera cuts multiple times to different
shots of the police. There are cuts from the police on foot to the ones in cars. Long shos are
used to see all the action in the frame.
He a long shot is used so we can see the car get hit and crushed by the truck. This also helps to
tell us that the villain doesn’t care about other people and whether they get hurt or not. This film
is an action film. A car chase is a common convention of an action film.
Here are some other villains who are possibly working with the first one. They are cutting a hole
in the floor to get somewhere but we are unable to tell where yet. There is something that they
want down there which you see later on.
Cross cutting occurs often in this scene to show that there are multiple events happening at the
same time.
Here we see out hero trying to stop the villain like a good hero would do. But the villain keeps
trying to stop him. This is the common convention of good vs evil.
Here we see what the other villains were looking for. Since the items are in front of the
character, we can assume that it’s really important. A close up is used to emphasize this point.
Here Spiderman is saving someone. Again this is a common convention of an action/superhero
film. There is always someone in danger that needs saving. A low angle is used to show that
Spiderman is the hero who is strong and confident. He easily saves the man without injury and
helps him with his blueprints which shows he’s kind.
Here where the police start crashing into one another, quick cuts to different angle are used.
This shows the fast pace of the scene. Multiple long shots are used to make sure that most of
the action can be seen in the frame.
Here the two villains are hanging by web. We can instantly assume that Spiderman has stopped
them from there crime. The editing has slowed down since the villains have been caught.
Two villains have been caught but there’s one more to catch. Most films will have a second
problem for the hero to deal with or will have one problem solved with a new one occurring.
We get a long shot here of the truck moving through anything in it’s path. This shows the villain
driving doesn’t care about very much.
Spiderman had to collect the tubes of orange but one fell out the back. He had to catch it. We
see multiple close ups of the tube which shows it’s important to get back. When he does catch it
he gets hit by a car but just sticks to the front like a spider.
Spiderman is talking on the phone to someone which shows he has other things he has to do
today. Every superhero has a secret identity and therefore two lives. They always clash. He’s
busy stopping villain but has other things to do in his normal life.
Now we cut back and forth between the graduation and the car chase in the city. This shows us
what Spiderman should be doing and what he is doing.
Slow motion is used here to show the passengers on the bus when there as a crash. We also see
Spiderman about to save them all in slow motion however he seems to move a bit faster which
shows he can move very fast.
Again, he save some people from being hit with a vehicle and shows how strong he is by
stopping the bus. We see a close up on his feet when he is stopping the bus showing us how
hard it must be for him.
Here a villain is trying to shoot Spiderman but keeps missing. We can tell because on the slow
motion. We can clearly see the bullets are missing Spiderman as he spins through the air. A high
angle is used to show that the villain is weak against Spiderman and going to lose.
The villain has been caught by Spiderman in an iconic way, with webs. The audience knows that
Spiderman will use his webs to catch villains. A low angle is used here to show the villain trying
to get away but can’t because of the webs. Spiderman then makes his way to a graduation.
