  • 1. Life Science-Biology of Fish Grade: Kindergarten By: Tiffany Sutton http
  • 2.  Today we are going to learn about a living organism called a fish. Three things we are going to learn about are:  What Will We Learn? 1. Fish Body Parts 2. Where They Live 3. What They Eat
  • 3. Fish are living organisms. Like humans, they have a lot of body parts that do different things. The three basic body parts of a fish are: 1. Gill 2. Fin 3. Scales Fishy Facts
  • 4.  Take a deep breath and blow it out. What body part did you use? You used your lungs.  Unlike humans, fish do not have lungs. Instead they use their gills to breath. A fish opens and closes it’s mouth to take in water. Oxygen is found in the water. Gill (g-i-ll) http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/education/questions/questions.html
  • 5.  Take your finger and rub the back of your other hand. What do you feel? This is your skin.  Unlike humans, a fish body is covered in scales. The scales protects the fish skin from harm. Scale (sc-a-l) http://www.versaquatics.com/fishanatomy.htm
  • 6. Fins help fish move through out the water. Some fins are located on the top of the fish body while others are located on its tail. Fins are made of bones and are very flexible. Fin (f-i-n) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_anatomy
  • 7. A. B. Lets Think About It Which letter shows the picture of the Fish?
  • 8. YES, This is a Fish Its actual name is a shark but it is still a fish because it lives in the water, has gills, fins, and scales. http://www.elasmo-research.org/education/white_shark/scales.htm
  • 9. A. B. Lets Think About It Which letter shows the picture of the Fish?
  • 10. Yes, This is a Fish This is a fish because it lives in the water, has gills, fins, and scales.
  • 11. Environment Unlike people, fish live in water. It does not matter the size of the water. You may find fish in a pond, in the backyard, or a big body of water such as a river or ocean. Now that we can identify a fish, lets learn about where fish live.
  • 12. Some people keep fish as a pet. These fish are placed inside of a fishbowl or aquarium. The most common aquariums are in zoos. Have you ever saw fish in a zoo? To keep fish as pets, the owner has to feed the fish and keep their environment clean. Fish in Aquariums
  • 13. Time to Eat Fish that live in the ocean, river, or ponds eat other fish Worms, and algae. Algae is like a plant. But most often a big fish will eat the medium fish and a medium fish will eat a smaller fish. So far we have learned how to identify a fish and where fish live. Now lets talk about what fish eat. http://www.fun-science-project-ideas.com/What-is- Algae.html
  • 14. Fish that live in fish tanks, often have a different diet. Their owners give them fish food. Time to Eat
  • 15. 1. Fish live in: __________ Correct, Fish live in Water! 2. Three basic parts of a fish are: ___________ Correct: Fin, Scales, and Gills Now lets review. Follow along on your paper while I read each question aloud.
  • 16. 3. Fish in the Ocean eat: ____________ Correct. Fish in the ocean eat other fish and worms. 4. Fish in a fish tank eat: ____________ Correct. Fish in a fish tank eat fish food. Let’s Review
