5. 5. Focal Point
Eyes are drawn to the man laying down reading a book
USE OF COLOR
White of the man’s clothing makes him stand out against the other colors.
Use of warm colors give a calming and relaxing feel to the painting
The green in the trees and some of the grass and the golden color of some of the grass indicate it may be a hot summer day.
6. 6. Picture is depicting a
field worker who is taking a break from the hot sun.
He appears to have found a shady spot because the grass is a little greener where he lays.
The picture is also lighter at the top and darker near the bottom.
It also appears that the wind may be blowing . If you look at the center the large grassy area is actually leaning to the left.
The man is also holding the right side of the book as if to hold that page in place.
8. 8. Three English Girls At A Window
Painting believed to be done in the year 1865
Oil Painting on 93x73 cm Canvas
Part of permanent exhibition at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copehagen
9. 9. Three English Girls At A Window
The painting seems to be
depicting a story of three
little young girls waiting
for their father to return
home from war.
The moon in the
background and the
dreary look among the
small girl’s face shows that
maybe they have been all
day.
