  9. 9. TiEcon Delhi 2013 The last decade or so has been an extremely interesting one for Entrepreneurship in India – both exciting and challenging at the same time. Entrepreneurship is fast becoming the career of choice and that bodes well for us as a nation. In the worst economic fallout of the decade, where India has also faced a substantial slowdown, the salvation will come from innovative Entrepreneurs who are stepping up to create businesses and ventures catering to the growing domestic market, which is growing at 18% as a result. Entrepreneurs are creators and innovators. As the market needs change and as many companies go down the Kodak route, many new ones start the Google wave. It is this constant focus on breeding innovation that drives the ‘next’ venture and the ‘next’ entrepreneur. 2010-20 is the Decade of In- novation in India and the Prime Minister has given it centre stage by creating the National Innovation Council to embed Innovation in the DNA of the country and create a strong foundation to change the culture and way of thinking. As the competition for resources increases and the relevance of geographic boundaries decreases, it is innovation that becomes the key differentiator for driving growth and change. That is why the theme for this year’s TiEcon Delhi 2013 is “Innovation in Action”. Dear Friends, I am delighted to extend to you a very warm welcome to TiEcon Delhi 2013. This is and has been your conference just as TiE Delhi – NCR, is your organization. You should take great pride that your TiE Delhi – NCR has won “The Best Chapter Award” in the TiE global Universe for several consecutive years, as this would not have happened without your active engagement, support and contribution. These positive energies have now started to result in Delhi - NCR becoming thecity of choice for entrepreneurs and we are increasingly seeing high quality ventures, mentors and investors come together to create a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. This year, TiEcon Delhi 2013,is focussing on the key element that has emerged as the beacon for the next generation of entrepreneurs – “innovation”. Innovation will and must permeate your products, systems and business models. In recent times, entrepreneurs have tried and proven the mettle of this mix and tasted the power of this cocktail. This year TiEcon 2013 will take you through various as- pects of innovation and demonstrate how you can benefit in a tangible form and open new windows for thought and action to build new products and companies. We have brought the best in the world to TiECON for you to learn, develop and leverage from. I invite you to capitalise on the opportunities offered at this unprecedented forum of academia, entrepreneurs, investors, bankers, incubators, corporates, media and more… Message from Chairman
  10. 10. TiEcon Delhi 2013 On behalf of the Board and Secretariat of TiE Delhi – NCR, I would like to thank sponsors, partners, the TiEcon Committee and volunteers for making TiEcon Delhi 2013 a great success. But more impor- tantly, it is your presence and participation that makes TiEcon Delhi the best Entrepreneur focused event in the country, if not in Asia. It could not have been possible without you. Saurabh Srivastava Chairman Emeritus TiE Delhi-NCR
  11. 11. TiEcon Delhi 2013 Dear Friends, Welcome to TiEcon Delhi 2013! Although I have been a part of TiE Delhi – NCR for over a decade, this is my first year as President. I am excited to personally welcome you to TiEcon Delhi 2013: In- novation in Action. From an entrepreneur’s viewpoint the year gone by could surely have been more encouraging. We, as business folks had to dig in, and dig deep into our repository of ideas and solutions, innovating in ways more than one. It was, therefore, only logical for the TiEcon Delhi 2013 Organising Committee to arrive at this year’s theme for your conference – Innovation in Action. This is something we have all been practicing and TiEcon Delhi was the perfect forum to deliberate on the same. Over the 2 days, we intend to share, exchange and generate ideas around this critical theme. It is time to bank and capitalise on Innovation and what better forum than TiEcon to get his going. TiE, the world over, has been the most active and approachable platform and facilitator for entre- preneurs, investors, intrapreneurs and ideators to take their plans to the sea and further navigate themselves to desired destinations. It is my privilege to say that TiE Delhi – NCR has been one of the brightest lights in the worldwide network of TiE Global. The efforts have been recognised and acknowledged globally as TiE Delhi-NCR has now been recognised as the Best Chapter globally for the third year running! On behalf of the TiE Delhi Board and Secretariat, I would like to thank all the Members, and in par- ticular our Charter Members, for having made this possible. TiE Delhi exists for and because of our Membership. With a new SIG community in place to augment our efforts, we look to you for more engagement, feedback and active criticism as we go forward. A special thanks to the TiEcon Committee who have worked in true selfless TiE style to put together the Conference. The team was superbly led by Subinder Khurana and Ashish Gupta, who worked tirelessly on the program and sponsorships to make this a reality. Was a real pleasure to work col- laboratively with all of you. TiEcon Delhi 2013 looks to you to make the most of the Conference and make it even more engaging and exciting. While the business environment around us is indeed a difficult one, we all know that when the times are tough, it’s the tough who get going! Wishing you wonderful TiEcon 2013! Deep Kalra President TiE Delhi-NCR Message from President
  12. 12. TiEcon Delhi 2013
  13. 13. TiEcon Delhi 2013 Dear Friends, I am delighted to welcome you to TiECon 2013. To paraphrase Thomas Edison, Entrepreneurship is 1% idea or innovation and 99% execution or action. This year at TiECon we aim to prepare you for both. We bring to you business leaders sharing their vision of the future in the CK Prahlad Memorial ses- sion, followed by a workshop to help you make innovation into a systematic process, a science, in addition to an art. Moreover, we prepare you to translate that into action and create customer delight, jobs, and wealth. Greater part of the conference is focussed on equipping you to execute, as we go in-depth into help- ing you turn your ideas into reality. You will hear from successful entrepreneurs and professionals, visionaries and master executors, who have made a mark in diverse disciplines ranging from films to education, technology to food, sports to healthcare. The panellists will share secrets of their success and their battle-scars, their knowledge and experience, even stories of how their families coped with the struggles of entrepreneurship. To round it off, TiE Institute will offer you in-depth, practical functional knowledge in functions ranging from branding to sales to fundraising, delivered by practi- tioners and entrepreneurs; knowledge which you can apply to your venture starting today. TiECon has always been a great place to build your network. This year, we have expanded and struc- tured networking opportunities. Whether you are looking for an investor, an advisor, co-founder, an expert in a specific field, or just meet interesting people, we have plenty of structured opportunities for you. I am sure you will find the sessions and corridor conversations educational, inspiring, and thoroughly enjoyable. The TiECon committee and TiE Secretariat team have put a lot of passionate thought and hard work into preparing every little detail of the sessions. Please join me in thanking them – you will see several of them moderating, coordinating and agonizing even during the conference, and you will feel their energy permeating throughout the event. Thank you all for participating, and I hope that several of you will go on to build ventures that make the TiE Community proud! Subinder Khurana Chairman TiEcon Organizing Committee Message from TiEcon Chair

  15. 15. TiEcon Delhi 2013 Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow. William Pollard Dear Friends, Welcome to TiEcon Delhi 2013. In its 13th year TiEcon brings with it Innovation in Action! To build a company, you need a good idea, a good entrepreneur, a good mentor and easy access to capital. Innovation in action has to be a sustained activity over a prolonged period. TiEcon Delhi 2013 is one of the largest entrepreneurship forums acting as an active catalyst to create an exciting and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in India. The two day mega event would focus on bringing out disruptive business models, translating thoughts into action, and celebrating success and failure at each step of entrepreneurship. I truly hope that the agenda this year will be instrumental in getting our entrepreneurial community to think of newer things to do and rethink newer ways to do what we have already done. The sessions have been carefully crafted to ensure that you meet interact and takeaway a lot of learning from TiEcon as a whole As a part of the TiE community we will continue to strive and work to make the ecosystem more conducive but if you have any suggestions that will help us improve please do let us know. 61. 61. TiEcon Delhi 2013 Advances in information technology, stringent regulatory frameworks, and the widespread adoption of social media over the last 10 years have created several problems and opportunities for executives in various industries. One such problem is obviously the need to store and analyze the ever-increasing amounts of data that comes in different forms, shapes, and sizes. Another is the need among business leaders to derive insights from internal and external data, so as to improve their firm’s Time, Quality, Money, Risk, Compliance, and Experience (T, Q, M, C, R, E) metrics. The sheer volume and variety of data, especially that generated by social media, has led to the growing influence of a new field called Big Data Science. Also, recent advances in computing and a rapid decline in data storage and processing costs have led to the emergence of techniques that can help the user in deriving real-time insights for marketing, product design, risk management, and compliance. According to Evalueserve, although improved technology and tools will play an important role in improving efficiency with respect to the T, Q, M, C, R, E parameters, they are likely to act only as decision support systems because of their inherent limitation with respect to contextual understanding. Human subject matter experts would be required to ensure that problems are solved in a more robust and effective manner. Recognizing these trends, Evalueserve is developing solutions in many fields using Big Data Science as well as the insights of numerous subject matter experts. We call this the “human+machine” engagement model. These solutions are being developed in areas of marketing, risk, and compliance, where data from the internet in the form of blogs, news articles, etc., is utilized to create solutions. These solutions include social media monitoring for tracking customer views, signs of supply chain disruptions, or credit defaults. For example, Evalueserve’s social media monitoring solution for marketing uses technology to process data and track variables for important KPIs such as customer experience. Evalueserve’s marketing analysts use this information to recommend areas of focus for advertising on social media. We are also actively engaged, with our clients, in improving existing processes by using our “Innovation Lab.” An example of a solution that will emerge from our Innovation Lab by January 1, 2014, is a customized database that tracks the movement of approximately 2 million C-level executives in about 75,000 companies worldwide.
