2. 2. The Context

The Global Village

Crises are created by us

When some of the best brains in the world become selfish, their competence causes havoc

When freedom is not accompanied by clearly defined walls, the system destroys itself

When cause and effect are distanced by time and space, our thinking gets clouded

 3. 3. Inspired Leadership

Great corporations who have chosen to follow the model of inspired leadership have resilience

They have always put focus on the long term and have not taken strategic decisions based on quarterly results and the pressure of the street

They have done the right thing for all stakeholders including the community and the Eco-system

Inspired leadership has four core values: ethics, sustainability, mindfulness and compassion

 4. 4. Inspired Leadership

Ethics means there is openness, transparency and sharing of good news and bad news well in time and ‘No Deception’ or ‘Half truths’ and the means used are fair and ‘above board’

Sustainability means we produce more than what we consume and always pay attention to the way we use the earth’s resources

Mindfulness means we understand the way our thinking and living impacts the planet

Compassion means we feel for those who are less fortunate

 5. 5. Managing for Talent in Today’s times

When you have paid attention to making your organization an inspired workplace, you excel in challenging times

The gap between great companies and others stands out in a big way

When there is high trust and high touch, it becomes easy to make tough calls

Down sizing is NOT the first priority of great companies

 6. 6. Some Smart Strategies

Over communicate- leaders need to be much more accessible and visible

Drive Innovation by rallying the people together and channeling fear into creativity

Treating people well will pay rich dividends when the market flips

Reach out to Alumni and get the best back!

Use this time to make critical change initiatives work- great time to harness resistance to much needed steps

 7. 7. Time to invest in building competence

This is the best time to build much needed skills and competence

Capability building needs more focused attention

High Potentials need attention but so do the ‘vital many’ rather than the ‘chosen few’

Leadership development becomes crucial

 8. 8. Imaginative Talent Management

Identify strategic initiatives and projects that matter

Choosing teams that are based on careful matching of portfolio of talent with the portfolio of projects

Changing manpower mix to prepare the company for the future

Leveraging networks for accelerated learning

 9. 9. Designing new dash board and rewards

Choose new measures that build health and are not guided by short term window dressing

Change reward systems

Do honest reviews based on facts and not impressions including complete acknowledgement of mistakes

Make rewards based on inspired leadership behavior and not just share price

 10. 10. ASPIRATIONS Calling ENTHUSIASM Commit ABILITY Gifts Inspired Leadership Behavior
 11. 11. And Remember….

Even this will pass away!!

So inspire people, make them feel wanted, speak the truth and if you have to ask people to leave , do it with deep compassion and with ‘tears’ in your eyes
