The Rules of Engagement Do Do Not Post Images & Video Post “Text Only” Updates Post Between 12am – 7am Post During Business Hours Use a Full URL Use a Shortened URL Like Bit.ly Post on Thursdays & Fridays Post on Saturdays & Sundays Keep it 80 Characters or Less Post 5000 Word “Customer Testimonials” Ask Questions with: “Where”, “When”, Ask Why “Would”, “Should” and “How”Use Words Like: “Coupon”, “$ Off”, “Event”, Use Words Like: “Contest”, “Promotion”, “Winner”, “Offer”, “New” and “Win” “Exclusive” and “Free Shipping” Ask Followers to: “Fill-in-the-blank”, “Like”, Post More Than Twice a Day “Post”, “Take”, “Submit” and “Watch”The 12 Rules of Facebook Fan Engagement 1) Use Images In Your Posts: Image Posts get 22% more engagement than video posts and 54% more engagement than text posts. 2) Schedule Posts To Go Live Before 7am: Businesses that post outside of business hours have a 20% higher engagement rate. 3) Post Important Messages On Thursday Or Friday: Engagement rates on Thursday and Friday are 18% higher than any other day of the week. 4) Keep It 80 Characters Or Less: Posts 80 characters or less in length have 27% higher engagement rates. 5) Use FULL URL Not A Shortened URL: Engagement rates are 3 times higher for posts that used a ‘full length’ URL. 6) Ask A Question: Posts that end with a question have a 15% higher engagement rate. 7) Don’t Ask WHY: “Why” questions had the lowest number of ‘Likes’ and ‘Comments’ as they are perceived as intrusive and challenging. 8) Do Start Your Post With: “Where”, “When”, “Would”, “Should”, or “How” 9) Do Ask Followers To: “Fill-In-The-Blank”, “Like”, “Post”, “Take”, “Submit” or “Watch” Asking fans outright to take a simple action will drive the greatest level of engagement.
