You are working as an ECE in a preschool room.
Lily(age 4) is a child with a severe hearing impairment
who has just started in your room. This is Lily’s first
time in a childcare centre, up to this point she had
been card for by her maternal grandparents. Her
parents are new to Toronto and ask you about
services in the area. Thy speak some English but
primarily Cantonese and have two other children(one
little boy 6 years old and a baby girl 6 months).
3. How I feel the needs of the child:
The need for affection—seeking a sense of belong
Parent provide unconditional love by hugging or kissing
the child.
Acknowledge the child’s feeling and be patient
Build confident and self-esteem
Provide praise for good behaviour, such as, sharing,
independence or academic success
Help the child to be proud of her body
4. How I feel the needs of the family:
Be patient to have a good communication.
•Raising the voice, face to face, and provide appropriate
gestures and expression.
Provide unconditional love, a way of let the child is being
love, respect and understanding.

When I was a kid, phone conversations with my

embarrassed of asking people to repeat the conversation again.

9. What kinds of treatments can help
severe hearing impairment?
1. Hearing aids:
Devices that put it inside or
behind the ears. It is invisible,
very small with a tinny wire that
goes down inside the ear.

sounds coming straight
to you, so that it is more
easier to hearing the
conversations.

background noises.

An electronic devices that help to captures sound, changes

aid that amplifies sound, it directly send sound into the brain.

My strength in this assignment would be I have an concept
of that severe hearing impairment means. So that I get an idea of
how to do this assignment. My weakness in this assignment would
be I need to spend my time to look for an explanation of the topic.
Also, I need to find out the agency that suitable for my topic.
Next, do a bit about the agency’s explanation. If I have time to
improve my assignment, I would spend much time on the
research than before because after spend much time on
research, I know how to explain the topic clearly. For this entire
course, it emphases that children with special needs have the
same opportunity to attend or participate in the childcare. We
need to be respect for people from all over the world and also
meet the needs of the child and the family.
