(Holmdel, NJ) Responsible for research and development of advanced analytical models and algorithms for solving complex problems in call center workforce optimization and supply chain management issues, including demand planning, supply planning, supply allocation, inventory planning, manufacturing scheduling, and order management. Major achievements: • Led R&D of the demand (call volume and average call time) forecasting tool for call centers. Underlying the tool are the following statistical models that enhance the forecast accuracy: outliers detection, missing data patch, demand correlation analysis and demand indicator analysis for special events. In using client provided real data, the tool yields 93% average forecast accuracy for 30-minute interval, daily, weekly and monthly forecasts. The tool was developed using C++, C# and SQL Server. • Led R&D of the capacity requirement planning tool for call centers and supply chains. The tool applies advanced queuing theory with consideration of abandon probability distribution (e.g. calls dropped or orders cancelled after waiting due to impatience) to find the minimum resource requirements for demand fulfillment based on service level (% of demand fulfilled by target date/time), average speed of fulfillment and/or resource utilization criteria. The tool was developed using C++, C# and SQL Server. 01/98 - 02/05 Research Staff Member and Project Manager Mathematical Sciences Dept., IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center (Yorktown Hts, NY) Responsible for research and development of innovative decision technologies/solutions for supply chain and e-business optimization, planning, and management. Major projects were: Demand Planning with Risk Assessment for IBM Personal Computer Division: developed advanced demand forecasting methods to project demands of products and components in the Configure-to-Order supply chain, and developed risk assessment techniques to analyze the impact of different demand plans on supply chain performance. Major achievements: • Project leader: directed all technical and managerial aspects of the project. • Developed an advanced methodology to forecast demands of products and components. • Developed a component correlation model using mutual information and contingency table analysis to improve forecast accuracy for components. • Developed a Bayesian diffusion-based product life cycle model to improve forecast accuracy for products. • Developed a forecasting parameter optimization algorithm using conjugate gradient analysis to improve overall forecast accuracy. • All systems were developed using C++, Visual Basic and MS-Access. Pricing and Profit Optimization for IBM Personal Computer Division: developed advanced pricing models to support special bids pricing processes in B2B environments. Major achievements: • Project leader: directed all technical and managerial aspects of the project. • Developed analytical models to determine the optimal price to bid in response to a competitive RFQ for a specific computer configuration. • Developed a complete relational database for bids transactions, pricing, profit optimization, and revenue management. • The web-based tool was developed using Java and in line with J2EE platform. Mail Sorting Facility and Air transportation Optimization for United States Postal Services (USPS): developed a suite of optimization solvers for improving the efficiency of USPS mail sorting operations and air transportation. Major achievements: • Project leader: directed all technical and managerial aspects of the project. • Developed mix-integer programming based methods (INS and DPS Optimizers) to determine optimal mail sorting schemes and minimum machine requirements for incoming mail sorting and destination point sequencing processes.   3. 3. • Developed a mix-integer programming based method (Facility Optimizer) to determine optimal daily schedule for machine operations that minimizes total sorting cost subject to critical dispatching times. • Developed a linear programming based method (Air Optimizer) to determine optimal air transportation delivery schemes subject to air cargo capacity constraints. • All tools were developed using C++ and AMPL in conjunction with Cplex callable libraries. Business Value Modeling for IBM Business Consulting Services (BCS): developed a value/ROI assessment tool for BCS consultants to evaluate the financial impacts of proposed business process and IT transformation solutions in the areas of SCM, PLM, RFID and Service-after-Sales. The tool provides a comprehensive methodology to translate operational transformations ultimately into financial value to a business, providing more complete and more objective information on the value of a project. Major achievements: • Technical leader: directed all technical aspects of the project. • Developed value and risk assessment models for supply chain management initiatives, product life-cycle management initiatives, RFID initiatives, and service-after-sale initiatives. • Developed a framework tool for ROI (return on investment) analysis that incorporates value and risk assessment models to measure the financial performance for business initiatives. • The tool was developed using Visual Basic and MS-Excel. Supply Chain Analysis and Logistics Evaluation for Philips Consumer Electronics - North America: developed a supply chain simulation model to evaluate various supply chain strategies and logistics infrastructures, and to provide strategic and tactical recommendations. Major achievements: • Project leader: directed all technical and managerial aspects of the project. • Developed a discrete event simulation model with an inventory optimization module, supply planning module, and distribution resource planning module. • Completed a detail simulation study for the evaluation of selected supply chain scenarios and provided strategic and tactical recommendations for implementations. • The simulator was developed using Arena. Sense-and-Respond (SaR) Blue Enterprise for IBM Microelectronics Division: developed supply chain event management system that integrates event monitoring, simulation and optimization capabilities to improve supply chain control. Major achievements: • Developed a demand exception detecting method based on Wineglass control chart. • Developed a demand-driven production plan and inventory optimization method as the core of SaR's analytics and optimization system. • Developed a comprehensive data model for SaR's analytics and optimization system.
