  • 4. What makes an effective mix? Stereo image: spread  Should be balanced between speakers  Preserve stereo mic positions  Put powerful instruments central  Spread of tracks helps separation  Creativity can add interest
  • 5. What makes an effective mix? Tonal Balance: blend  Contrasting tones helps effective blend  Choice of instruments is important (arranging)  EQ helps parts “sit” together  Separation = each track in own space
  • 6. What makes an effective mix? Depth of field: ambience  Reverb helps natural sounding mix  Each instrument can appear at a different distance  Separation = each track in own space
