  1. 1. Long Term Causes of the French Revolution 1. Resentment of the nobles 2. France is in severe debt – Economy is awful – Little money 3. Ferme – system of driving up the cost of food
  2. 2. Short Term Causes of the French Revolution 1. A severe storm destroyed the harvest 2. Estates General
  3. 3. Nobles Nobles are angry at the King for making them pay taxes
  4. 4. Bourgeoisie The Bourgeoisie are angry at the nobles & the King. They want to fix France’s economy & have more say in government.
  5. 5. Townspeople Thousands are unemployed. They have no money & very little food.
  6. 6. Peasants A bad harvest has caused the peasants to fear starving to death. Not treated well by the nobles.
  7. 7. ADD TOGETHER Bourgeoisie who fear bankruptcy & the loss of their businesses + Thousands of unemployed, poor townspeople who don’t have enough to eat + Millions of dirt poor peasants who fear starvation =
