  • The Database Management capability solution r educes the total cost of database ownership by automating day-to-day operations and increasing overall service responsiveness. CA Database Management provides advanced technology and integration to manage increasingly large and complex databases (including DB2 and IMS on the mainframe, Oracle, and DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server on distributed servers.) This solution is for customers that need to efficiently design databases, reduce database management complexity, increase operational efficiency, protect data assets, and control cost of database ownership. The database management solution is comprised of 4 functional solution areas that support multiple database vendor’s environments, specifically Database Design and Modeling, Database Performance Management, Database Administration and Database Backup and Recovery. These four functional solution areas comprise the lifecycle of database management from database design to production and back. Over 40 individual products, many of which are highly integrated, provide the capabilities of these 4 functional solution areas. The opportunity we see, and which our clients are excited about as we execute on CA Enterprise IT Management vision is to: Continue and extend our platform support across database types and operating systems Reduce the boundaries between these functional technology segments Accelerate integration between CA Database Management and other technology areas.
  • The next step in the end to end performance management is to combine the database management performance information with system, network and application performance information. Today Insight for Distributed Databases is integrated with CA’s Network and Systems Management (NSM) and eHealth products to provide database performance data as part of systems and network management. Development is currently underway to add the database performance information to Wily Introscope to complete the end to end performance management picture such that both mainframe and distributed database performance information will be available to diagnose a performance issue across the infrastructure.
