  • Good Morning. Today, I am going to make a presentation to all members on the plan of Census & Statistics Department in developing a set of statistics on scientific and technological activities in Hong Kong. I will briefly introduce the types of statistics (commonly called S&T Indicators) to be compiled and the implementation plan.
  • The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, abbreviated OECD, is at present the trend-setter in this area of statistics. Therefore, the OECD standards and methodologies are followed in our development plan. Accordingly, 6 categories of S&T indicators are planned to be developed, taking into account the specific circumstances of Hong Kong’s economy. They are research & development inputs, S&T human resources, patents, external technology flow, S&T publications and technological innovation. The first two categories mainly measure the input of S&T activities while the following threemeasure the output. The last category measures both the input and output of S&T activities.
