  • 1. Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Department of Humanities and social Sciences is successfully running its courses since the beginning of the Institute. The Department has organized many short term courses and workshops for the integrated personality development of engineering students. In the academic year 2005-06 the Department introduced a new course ‘COMMUNICATION SKILL WORKSHOP’ which is focused on the student’s communicative and presentation ability. In recent academic year 2006-07, HSS has got senate approval for launching a Post Graduate course “MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK” from the academic year 2008-09. Now, the Department is positioned to expand itself in various ways. Department of Humanities and Social sciences proposes following Academic and Financial Plans for the year plan of 2007-08.   • 7. I joined this institution in August 1977 and worked my way up from teaching assistant to lecturer to assistant professor. I teach English Language and Literature Courses to engineering graduate students and was also head of the department from 01/04/2003 to 01/10/2004 before leaving on a foreign teaching assignment to Ethiopia I have worked as assistant professor in a UNDP funded project in the Department of English Language and Literature, University of Gondar, Ethiopia from 12 October 2004 to 22 August 2005 I taught two major courses titled Fundamentals of Literature and Prose and Style to First year graduate students and second year graduate students respectively in the fall semester and a major course titled Introduction to Literary Criticism in the spring semester. From July’95 to July’97 I was on my government’s deputation as Colombo Plan Lecturer to the Royal Government of Bhutan. I taught English language and literature courses to graduate honors students while working in the Department of English, Sherubtse College, Kanglung, Bhutan. 10. Research Experience: I took my D.Phil (Ph.D.) degree from the Department of English and Modern European Languages, University of Allahabad, India on Indian Writing in English which is a significant branch of Commonwealth Literature. My thesis is titled “The Novels of Kamala Markandaya – a study in themes and techniques” and seeks to assess the fictional achievement of a prominent woman writer of Indian English fiction.
