India has always intrigued me, perhaps because we have so many Canadians of Indian origin. I also grew up admiring Mahatma Gandhi as a principled, persistent defender of democratic rights and social justice.
I had a look for some prime vacation spots in India during the month of October (because my birthday is in October) and found a number I would enjoy celebrating my birthday at. All are situated in the shadows of the magnificent Himalayas and all the dates available to me as a club member overlapped my birthday! Awesome!
Country Inn, Bhintal
The Country Inn Bhimtal is about 300 miles from Dehli so it will be an adventure getting there. But it will be worth the trip. It blends perfectly with the natural beauty of the Himalayas. The view are sensational.
Sterling Rock Perch, Yercaud
Yercaud is a small hill station nestled in the Shervaroyan hills amongst coffee plantations and is a nature getaway for south India. The resort is accessible by air from the nearest airport about 160 km away or by rail.
Club Mahindra Lake Forest, Yercaud
Recently renamed Indeco Lake Forest Hotel, Club Mahindra Lake Forest is another Yercaud destination you'll love. Yercaud is called the Jewel of the Shevaroy and is a literally mile high hill station tucked away among the magnificent Shevaroy hills only a half mile away from the Yercaud Lake.
Sterling Fern Hill, Ooty
Sterling Fern Hill will be one of the most stimulating destinations you will ever visit. Being situated right near Lake Yercaud makes boating and fishing the main attractions. There is an amusement park for children, you can enjoy golfing, horse back riding as well and numerous local attractions.
Accommodations include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with modern decor. Come and savor the flavors of India, the spice in life summons you to this amazing retreat. It's easily accessible by air, bus or rail from the nearest airport about 100 km away at Coimbatore.
Timber Trail Heights Parwanoo
Timber Trail Heights is situated about 80 km from Shimlain in the small town of Parwanoo. It is apparently a spectacular, breathtaking ride to the resort because it is perched on the top of a hill and is accessible only by cable car. That alone would get me there. The resort can organize tours to exotic hill stations such as Kasauli, which is at 6,000 feet above sea level, or Chail, the summer seat of the famous rulers of Patiala.
