  • This is designed to be a somewhat technical presentation. It does not go into bits and bytes of the solution but it does cover how Polycom technology enables a true on demand collaboration experience.
  • Key Point – Polycom is the only company that enables collaborative decisions to be made quickly and easily by delivering On-Demand Collaboration solutions that are easy to use, enable instant collaboration and are easy to deploy. On-Demand solutions are easy to use because they follow simple and familiar ways of starting a meeting such as using a telephone number or a buddy list without having to do any scheduling. People can collaborate instantly in a way that fits with how they work or want to work today. This means they will collaborate more in their work to share information and make decisions so the company will see the productivity and efficiency benefits. On-Demand solutions are safe and easy for IT to deploy because they have the necessary integration points with existing network infrastructures and systems so that IT can manage the solution and its users in the same way it manages its existing environment today. Network Operational overhead is significantly reduced with implementation issues and the need for incremental support removed so minimizing total cost of ownership. Polycom has solutions that reach from the personal communicator to the RPX so that it has an affordable and suitable solution for any environment. This means that companies can take advantage of collaboration solutions right through their organization at every level, in every place and for every employee for competitive advantage. Polycom has a Global service organization with dedicated locations throughout the world that provide support right there locally for On-Demand installations. This maximizes collaboration availability and a company’s return on investment for their collaborative equipment investment
  • On demand collaboration is all about ensuring any user can connect to one or more other users from anywhere, on any device on any network – instantly. No scheduling, no pre-configuration – just click and connect. Here you can highlight the power of the unified conference bridge and how it can connect any user on any network with any protocol instantly. It is important that customers understand how important this is if you are to deliver a seamless consistent user experience. If the prospect is more technical, you can use this point to explain in more detail how Polycom delivers real transcoding compared to some of the other manufacturers out there, such as Tandberg, who only do rate matching. Building on top of the Unified conference bridge you now want to emphasize the breadth of Polycom endpoint solutions – we are the only manufacturer who can provide VoIP phones, conference phones, Personal communicators, meeting room solutions and a telepresence solution. No other manufacturer has such a wide range of solutions. The key message here is that we have a conferencing solution for just about every situation and user type – enabling instant collaboration from anywhere. Building on top of our breadth of endpoint offerings you now should highlight the benefits that this brings. By obtaining all devices from one manufacturer the prospect can ensure a consistent user experience for everyone, rather than users having a different experience every time they connect. Finally, you can highlight how well our solution integrates into the wider communications environment and enables true on-demand collaboration. It is also important to make sure the prospect understands that our solution stands in its own right as best-in-class as well as being able to integrate into a unified communications deployment. Customers can invest now, and be reassured that if they invest in Polycom today that their solution is future proofed and will integrate into future communications solutions. This is another opportunity to link to the strategic alliance partners if appropriate.
  • A recurrent message through the presentation is that only Polycom can deliver a true on-demand collaboration solution. Our competitors talk about on-demand but don’t have the full range of technologies and solutions that a true on-demand solution requires. This slide highlights 4 key areas where Polycom adds real value to the on-demand experience. At this stage just focus on the 4 key subject headings – each area will be looked at in a little more detail later in the presentation. It will go into the on-demand experience in a little more detail and highlight the challenges that deploying an on-demand solution creates. This will then enable the presentation to come full circle and look again at these 4 key headings in more detail.
  • On-demand collaboration solutions are about bringing all user types together with audio, video and content. It is also about enabling those users to connect seamlessly and obtain the best possible experience that their device can support. Remember to emphasize that it is not just multipoint conferencing, but on-demand collaboration can be 1 to 1 as well – an integrated unified solution is required to provide the appropriate gateway connectivity and protocol transcoding. Key messages:- On-demand collaboration is about bringing together instantly all types of communication into the same meeting environment The user experience must be consistent and high quality On-demand Collaboration is more than just multipoint, it is also point to point
  • The next sequence of slides examine the user experience when connecting on-demand from a number of different locations. It shows just how consistent and easy the user experience is. There are also two deployment case studies at the end of the presentation that provide more details on how on-demand can be implemented. Key message:- User experience is key. Only Polycom delivers such a simple, easy to use consistent interface.
  • First example is in the conference room and boardroom. Here you can highlight that our video endpoints have buddy lists and can integrate into presence solutions such as Microsoft Live Communication Server. A user can join a meeting simply by selecting a meeting from the buddy list. Key messages:- Connecting is easy. Simply select from a buddy list or dial a number
  • Alternatively they can simply dial the number from the remote control. It is worth highlighting at this point the Polycom natural call progression, where a user dials the conference number from the attached SoundStation and the call connects as video. This easy to dial experience is unique to Polycom. You can also highlight at this point that Polycom also has the widest range of installed voice products (Vortex product line) for boardrooms that require custom audio installations. Again, only Polycom can provide the video endpoint, the integration with the conference phone and the integration with the room audio solution. Key Messages:- Only Polycom offers the FULL range of conferencing solutions for a boardroom Reinforce the message about Polycom's unique natural call progression.
  • Now that we move out of the traditional meeting environment the message here is that the user experience does not change. A mobile user could be connected instantly on their smartphone over WiFi or GPRS, and connect to a meeting over IP from their buddy list. Alternatively they could simply dial the unified meeting number – this is exactly the same experience as in the meeting room or the boardroom. Key messages:- User experience remains consistent no matter what the environment Only Polycom can deliver such a consistent on-demand user experience.
  • Same again when working in a hotel. You can connect via buddy list or by dialing the meeting number. Even if you only have a dial up modem you could send content over that using People+Content IP and call into the audio via cell phone. The key message here is that the user experience for on-demand collaboration remains consistent, no matter what the connection type or network
  • Same again for a home worker – they can select the meeting from a buddy list on their VoIP phone or dial in over audio using a SoundStation. This is more reinforcement of the consistent on-demand user experience message.
  • This is the final example of the user experience, and again it is the same as before – buddy list or simply dial the number from your PVX – on demand connectivity from anywhere instantly.
  • The next couple of slides highlight the typical challenges that arise in an on-demand collaboration deployment. This slide highlights the various network and user types that need to be connected to an on-demand meeting. Bringing multiple users together instantly, with a consistent user experience no matter what the environment is a key strength of Polycom – no competitor comes close to the flexibility and power that Polycom can deliver for creating instant on-demand meetings.
  • The first column of text highlights the 4 key challenges that arise when trying to deliver a consistent on-demand experience to users in the network shown on the previous slide. These key challenges also map to Polycom’s value add in these areas as shown earlier on slide 4. The second column of text highlights how Polycom meets those challenges and enables a simple, easy to use consistent on-demand experience. The next sequence of slides provide more text to support the key message areas of - easy to use - enable instant collaboration - easy to deploy - easy to support
  • This provides more details on how Polycom enables a unique ease-of-use experience.
  • This highlights why enabling instant collaboration is key to an on-demand experience – enables users to collaborate without regard to their location, their network or their device. By having the widest range of collaboration endpoints it means the on-demand experience can be made available to everyone in an organization.
  • Network management and deployment are a key factor of a successful on-demand experience. Polycom solutions mean that both the user experience and the administration experience are as painless as possible.
  • As well as having the right support tools it is important that a world class support organization is available for escalation and response as required.
  • This slide summarizes all the technology elements that support and back up the statements made on the previous slides.
  • The next few slides outline how Polycom plays a vital role in enabling on-demand collaboration within a Unified Communications deployment. Polycom is the cornerstone of many of our alliance partner implementations as Polycom technology enables the creation of on-demand meetings. Without Polycom these Unified Communications deployments would not be able to deliver instant video communication to the desktop or be able to connect users across multiple networks and environments together into an instant meeting.
  • Key Point – Polycom’s Collaborative solutions are the cornerstone in any Unified Communication deployment. Polycom’s On-Demand collaborative solutions turn a unified communication deployment into a real-time collaborative environment where decisions are made quickly and collaboratively and so enabling quantum leaps in productivity and efficiency. Polycom’s on demand solutions remove the technology and interoperability barriers within a Unified Communications deployment, ensuring users can collaborate together instantly, from any environment.
  • There are many suppliers of Unified Communications solutions – all looking to combine different media and messaging together into a single user experience. Polycom takes the power of it’s on-demand user experience and integrates it into the market leading Unified Communications solutions.
  • Different partners have different approaches to their Unified Communications solution. Some are telephony based, with call control being done by a telephony call management server. Others are more presence based, with the presence server handling multimedia integration. In either case Polycom enables users of these solutions to connect instantly to any user on any network with any device type and collaborate with them to the best of their devices abilities. The next sequence of slides show how Polycom integrates with some of the key Unified Communications providers.
  • Polycom integrates it’s on-demand solution with Alcatel’s My Teamwork collaboration server and the OmniPCX IP Telephony solution (Not shown). This enables instant video collaboration for both telephony and PC centric users. The MGC and VSX room integrate closely with the Alcatel telephony and presence experience. In addition Polycom PVX technology is used as the video engine for desktop and IP Softphone users.
  • Polycom’s technology tightly integrates with the Avaya communication Manager H.323 based telephony solution. This enables the MGC and VSX room systems to integrate closely with the Avaya telephony experience. In addition Polycom PVX technology is used as the video engine for desktop and IP Softphone users.
  • Polycom has closely integrated with Microsoft collaboration solutions for a number of years. The latest phase of deployment integrates Polycom’s on-demand technology with Microsoft Live Communication Server and Office Communicator. Virtual meeting rooms on the Polycom conference bridge appear directly in the buddy list of an Office Communicator user. In addition, user presence and status can be displayed on Polycom IP phones. Also Polycom VSX solutions can integrate directly with Live Communication Server and provide list driven user interface.
  • Polycom also integrates tightly with a Cisco Call Manager environment. As well as providing native SCCP support on the VSX endpoints, Polycom’s PathNavigator and MCU/Gateway can integrate on the H.322 side of Call Manager. Polycom provides the glue to integrate all of these environments, plus PSTN and ISDN video together into a single on-demand collaborative environment.
  • These next two slides show how easy it can be to deliver real productivity gains with on-demand collaboration, yet not require a large support staff. This first example is an organization that automated the front end of their on-demand infrastructure through the company intranet web site. Users simply requested an on-demand virtual meeting space – they were then validated against the company LDAP database and an entry created for them. This enabled creation of hundreds of authenticated on-demand meeting spaces with no administration intervention. They run 100% on-demand – no conferences are scheduled. The logic is that it is cheaper to invest in sufficient resource to meet the user needs than to employ people to manage a more limited amount of collaboration resource.
  • This is a description of how Polycom uses it’s own on-demand solutions to great effect. Although our network (volume of endpoints and bridges etc.) may not be typical of a customer deployment it does give an indication of the scale that a network can easily grow to without requiring a large administration overhead.
