  • TechSoup.org offers nonprofits a one-stop resource for technology needs by providing free information, resources, and support. In addition to online information and resources, we offer a product philanthropy service through which nonprofits can access donated and discounted technology products, generously provided by corporate and nonprofit technology partners.
  • TechSoup Global currently operates its product donation programs with partners in 32 countries. With the number of supporting corporations currently at 37 (offering 392 different donated or discounted products) TechSoup Global has provided approximately 4.9 million donated technology products since program inception to NGOs around the world. The retail price of these donations is roughly equivalent to US$1.4 billion.
  • Garbage in = Garbage out I spent 6 months cleaning up data AFTER I’d given it to an intern to do – the first go around – I started from scratch all over again. Create a blueprint so you know the different steps you have to take with your data to massage it and get it to the conversion team You want to have consistent data so that when you generate reports, you don’t have some that read Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and others that read Peggy and Joe Jones. Have a protocol for street vs st., avenue vs. ave, suite vs ste etc. keep it consistent. Your data will look prettier.

    • Inexpensive for the software version
    • Very intuitive for data entry
    • Allows you to create drop-down boxes in most fields to keep data consistent
    • Issues:
      • Custom fields can’t be used in reports
      • Smartlist reports can’t do totals
      • The word processing function is clunky
    • But there are workarounds for all the problems and Mission Research listens to suggestions for improvements

  • Final Thoughts
    • The on-line videos are very good. Worth taking the time to view them before you get started, and again when you get to that point
    • There is an active Giftworks group on Linked IN. Generally people ask for help for workarounds when the program doesn’t work the way they want – lots of generous help is offered.
    • Real people answer the phone in customer service.
    • Back up. Back up. Back up. And then back up.

  • Final Thoughts
    • Designate a point person
    • Spend as much time as you need to provide clean data (GIGO)
    • It will be tedious and laborious – its worth it
    • Create a data-entry ‘how to’ manual so anyone who does it knows the protocol (e.g. Ave. vs Avenue)
  • Thank you for your time today!

    • The query tool
    • The Pledge module
    • Book keeping and accounting

    • This tool is highly customizable but most resources have to be paid besides the standard fee. Also the Standard fee varies based on the number of records and users you have. For general information about DonorPerfect® services, fees etc. access the following link:
