I have to admit I was a little hesitant when first starting this project. I was not sure where to begin, who to contact or what to even look for. After completing the Teachers in Action modules I felt a little more at ease.
Since I have always been interested in Health and Fitness I did a search in my area to see if I could find any inclusive, family, free activities for individuals in my community. I didn’t find much so I decided to organize my own club for anyone and everyone to join.

I had a great time with this project. I could really see the differences in certain individuals from start to finish. At the end, we all felt like a family; willing to help each other out.
During our socialization time I learned a lot about each individual in my club. I began to understand how hard it was for some of these parents. Some of them couldn’t afford an after school program like this one and some were too embarrassed to take their kids to any social setting. It made me want to give 100% to each individual out there in hopes that they could take away something positive and have a great experience every Wednesday.
I know I will be a better person and teacher because of this experience. Even though I have taken several education classes, they in no way prepared me for teaching like this service learning project did. I was put on the spot every meeting and had to really think on my feet. I learned not to judge, but to listen so that I could learn about each individual’s likes, dislikes, abilities and beliefs.
I spent several hours on the computer researching about individuals with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) and how to get them engaged in group activities.
