  2. 2. Advent <ul><li>Forty days before Christmas were called &quot;forty days of St. Martin,&quot; and began on 11th November. Today, this period lasts for four weeks and is called Advent. </li></ul>
  3. 3. History of Christmas <ul><li>Christmas is the year marking the birth of Jesus Christ . Correct date of Jesus' birth, which historians place between 7 and 2 years before Christ, it is not known. </li></ul>
  4. 4. History of putting decorations <ul><li>The practice of putting up special decorations at Christmas has a long history. From pre-Christian times, people in the Roman Empire brought branches . The heart-shaped leaves of ivy were said to symbolize the coming to earth of Jesus, while holly was seen as protection against pagans and witches. </li></ul>
