2. Starting with the G8 meeting in Lough Erne in 2013 and continuing with
the Financial Action Task Force's October 2014 report "Guidance on
Transparency and Beneficial Ownership" and the November 2014 G20
Brisbane Summit, world leaders have been taking the necessary steps
towards curtailing anonymous companies and illicit financial flows.
On March 26, 2015, the United Kingdom moved first and implemented
its own Act on Beneficial Ownership. This regulation established a
central public registry of those individuals who hold significant control
of UK companies.

3. On June 5, 2015, the Norwegian Parliament passed a similar law
creating a beneficial ownership public registry.
According to Sophie Haggerty of Global Financial Integrity, "Norway’s
strong endorsement of transparency comes as no big surprise: the
Scandinavian country routinely ranks near the top of transparency
and anti-corruption rankings, and Norway was the first country to get
behind the push to curb illicit financial flows.“
Inspired by these events and the current questions pertaining to the
future of beneficial ownership, Taxlinked.net chose to host a live
panel discussion on the topic.
