What is Cities Reducing PovertyVibrant Communities Canada – Cities Reducing Poverty is aconnected learning community of 100 Canadian cities/regions andprovinces with cross-sector roundtables addressing povertyreduction.The goal is aligned poverty reduction strategies in cities, provincesand the federal government resulting in reduced poverty for1 million Canadians.

Why a Learning Community?A sense of shared problem solving and evaluation in these complex times isrequired to move the needle on poverty reduction and create vibrantcommunities so that in Canada 1 million people will experience less poverty.A Learning Community connects staff, volunteers, interested communitymembers, and more together through learning in on-line and face-to-faceenvironments. The action of both learning and connection translates morequickly to effective action than learning on ones own. Resources andinformation are shared with the intention of meeting goals and alignedstrategies more quickly.

Members of Cities Reducing Poverty Agree to:Actively participate in the Learning CommunitySign on to a Cities Reducing Poverty CharterAgree to a common evaluation frameworkDevelopment of a business plan and policy frameworkAdvocate for aligned municipal, provincial and federal poverty reduction strategies.Work towards shifting attitudes about poverty through a national Cities ReducingPoverty summit in 2012Annually provide $1,000 toward the operation of the learning community
