  • Back-ground pre Implementation of Talis Software cont • Negotiation with Talis in the UK to receive full administration software functionality to conduct a trial. • Talis agreed • Talis team created new Google accounts to begin further familiarization of software. La Trobe University 5
  • Talis Trial July to November 2013 Talis team invited 22 academic staff to participate in the trial by preparing their reading lists in Talis Aspire (range of courses and materials). 6 staff agreed to take part - some of the reasons other staff could not attend were “too busy” “haven’t got enough time.” The trial ran from July to November 2013 Pamphlets outlining the functionality and benefits of Talis Aspire were distributed to staff attending the demonstrations for distribution and promotion to other academic staff within their Faculty Survey was installed on the list level page of Talis for students to complete – due to the time of year take-up of the survey was limited to students from on subject. Majority responded that the were “happy” with Reading Lists access La Trobe University 6
  • Progress Talis Software was purchased November 2013 Originally, during 2014 the Library intended to run 2 concurrent Reserve systems (Millennium reserve module and Talis) until all Reserve lists were created using Reading Lists @ La Trobe (Talis Aspire) by 1st Semester 2015. Readinglists@ La Trobe introduction demonstration sessions for academic and teaching staff with a total of 320 emails sent to staff inviting them to attend demonstrations/ training sessions. 2013 (November and December) Melbourne Talis Team scheduled 12 demonstrations of Reading Lists @ La Trobe - there was limited uptake. 2014 Scheduled 12 sessions per month – January to March – during the month of January –limited uptake.   • Change to implementation Due to poor response by academic staff to attend training, the library decided to change the approach to implementing Reading Lists @ La Trobe. Library staff will now create reserve lists (shell) in the Talis software as follows: 1. All 2014 lists – those that already have a millennium record (approximately 400 lists) and those that are requested ongoing. 2. Only the requested “updated” 2013 Reserve lists via the “Update your reserve lists” form - this online form will remain on the library web page with an appropriate note informing staff of “ReadingLists @ Latrobe”. (approximately 900 lists) 3. Remaining 2013 lists will only be added to Talis once requested for update 4. All 2013 lists (and 2014 that were originally added to millennium) will be suppressed from public view via the catalogue. 5. Arrange to have “Reading Lists @ La Trobe” direct login on the library web page which will be another way that students may login into their lists by entering their course code – this will take them directly to their subject list in Talis.   • Administrative actions • Investigate and research new online reading list, research and report findings • Compile academic and library staff training manuals I(in consultation with the Melbourne Talis team members). • Prepare and present Talis Trial report with Lea Beranek • Schedule demonstrations for academic and teaching staff • Schedule training for Library staff including cross campus • Webinars - run, and attend, a series of sessions online and events you can attend giving you the opportunity to network and discuss reading-list and digitisation management, learning, and technology issues. Registration is required. These are available via the Talis Unite site or via Talis webpage see La Trobe University 10
  • Academic and teaching staff demonstrations Academic manual and the quick starter guide can be accessed via Library's homepage under Teaching services see Demonstrations scheduled from November 2013 and will continue throughout 2014 Frequency - 3 sessions per week, alternating days and times for approximately 1 hour Academic and teaching staff in various schools (13) Health Sciences as well as Faculty of Law Business Economics and Law were invited to join the demonstrations List creator Invitations and instructions to install bookmarklet tool sent to La Trobe University academics and teaching staff who had agreed to join one of the 11
