  • 3. Firstly, what is Facebook ? Simple definition: it's a massive forum on a website. Complex definition: it’s an interactive community where everyone can interact directly with anyone else they choose.

Worldwide Facebook Users - 683 million (if Facebook was a country it would be the 3rd largest) Australian Facebook Users - 11 million (50% of total population) Nearly 33% of Facebook Users in Australia are over 35 Australian women aged 55 and over are the fastest growing Facebook demographic. Australian users spend around 30 hours a month on Facebook; upload 80 million pictures; wrote 32 million 'wall posts' and 45 million 'status updates‘. Australia leads the world in time spent on social media sites (not just Facebook).
  • 5. Background <ul><li>Two main platforms of Facebook:- </li></ul><ul><li>Personal Profiles </li></ul><ul><li>Business Pages </li></ul><ul><li>Each contains two main areas:- </li></ul><ul><li>News Feed (what you see) </li></ul><ul><li>Wall (what your Friends/Fans see) </li></ul>

A Little Bit of Techno <ul><li>Personal account is called a PROFILE and it collects FRIENDS </li></ul><ul><li>A user can create BUSINESS PAGES that collects LIKES (aka FANS) </li></ul><ul><li>A Wall (‘Profile’) is used to post status updates to be displayed to Friends/Fans </li></ul><ul><li>A News Feed (‘Home’) is where YOU read your friends’ status updates </li></ul>
  • 7. 76% of Australians are loyal to the brand of car they drive; 67% to their coffee shop and 65% to their financial institution. Only 14% of people trust ads, but they trust their friends and colleagues. We need solutions to problems, and to satisfy that need, we go to our friends and family; our personal networks. Those networks are now using social media to participate in this Information Communication Revolution. Loyalty - Respect - Word-of-mouth
