6. Poodle Bug Update
POODLE, or Padding Oracle on Downgraded Legacy Encryption, is a SSL V3 vulnerability
stemming from a design flaw in the way the technology handles block cipher mode
padding. This potentially can allow a ‘man-in-the-middle’ attacker to decrypt secure HTTP
cookies, using techniques from an existing, older vulnerability called BEAST (Browser
Exploit Against SSL/TLS).
TNS has limited systems running on SSL V3 and is actively working on migrating away
from this cryptographic protocol. Precautionary measures, such as scanning our devices
globally for the POODLE vulnerability and deploying POODLE vulnerability IDS signatures
on all of our sensors around the world, have been completed. All customers impacted by
this work have been contacted and are working closely with their sales representative to
ensure, if necessary, migration steps are taken to reduce the risk associated with this
vulnerability.
