Transcript of "THE WHEEL SPEAKS ON 2013 – From A Struggle To Video?"

  1. 1.   1       THE  WHEEL  SPEAKS  ON  2013  –  From  A  Struggle  To  Video?
  2. 2.   2   It  would  totally  astound  you  to  hear  what  your  child  thinks  and  how  he  or  she  may   think  highly  of  in  this  society  today.  But  truthfully  there  is  a  large  percentage  of   adults  who  may  have  never  even  thought  about  asking  that  particular  question  at   all.  There  are  kids  today  that  really  have  nothing  to  aspire  to  because  they’ve  been   given  absolutely  no  incentive  and  it  can’t  be  blamed  on  school  because  many  of  the   things  I  especially  learned  as  a  youth  regarding  my  culture  was  self  taught  and  going   to  school  in  the  60’s  and  70’s  many  teachers  had  incentive  to  exclude  what  interest   me  and  that  was  civil  rights.     Although  they'll  be  given  rave  revues  we'll  be  continuously  fed  movies  meant  to   sedate  our  opinionated  enthusiasm  that  of  course  all  must  be  seen  as  a  family  on  the   weekends.  Of  recent  The  Butler  and  now  12  Years  A  Slave  and  of  course  the  media   will  sell  it  and  many  of  us  will  be  sold  over  and  over  again  and  the  numbers  will   constantly  increase.  The  internet  at  times  in  particularly  when  I  think  personally   about  why  (personally  speaking)  African  Americans  use  it  as  a  resource  isn't  being   utilized  to  it's  fullest  capabilities.  Years  ago  as  a  collective  entity  our  people  (African   Americans)  relied  on  communicating  with  one  another  on  a  grass  roots  level.       Sunday  speeches  up  and  down  Harlem  every  week  where  you  can  hear  prominent   individuals  like  Adam  Clayton  Powell  Jr.  or  Malcolm  X  right  on  the  sidewalks.  We   even  listened  to  the  radio  way  before  FM  was  popular  there  were  stations  like   brought  you  informative  information  about  our  rights.  I  remember  attending  both   the  Million  March  in  1995  and  also  the  Day  of  Atonement  in  Manhattan  personally   and  seeing  images  of  Dr.  Martin  Luther  King  Jr.  March  On  Washington.       The  one  thing  that  should  resonate  within  our  collective  though  process  as  people  of   African  American  descent  is  being  unified  but  shamefully  it  doesn't.  Years  ago  our   people  had  absolutely  nothing  in  comparison  to  what  we  have  in  regards  to  the   means  of  communication  we  have  be  it  information  technology  at  our  fingertips  and   in  our  homes.  But  yet  it's  utilized  mostly  for  entertainment  purposes  and  to  sadly   keep  our  youth  sedated  or  distracted  and  without  attempting  to  offend  anyone  at  all   many  are  guilty.       Privatized  corporations  will  never  encourage  any  of  us  simply  to  empower   ourselves.  And  many  of  the  frowns  I  receive  from  in  particularly  politicians  I  have   been  personally  associated  with  is  eventually  because  it  is  never  my  intent  to  see  my   people  dancing  to  a  conductors  every  command.  This  generation  has  absolutely  no   real  leadership  that  is  genuine.  I  am  speaking  in  regards  to  someone  who  has   absolutely  no  sponsorship  or  incentive  from  a  major  or  private  corporation.  Every   supposed  leader  today  has  some  kind  of  show  on  CNN  MSNBC  or  other  cable  or   network  affiliates  whose  sponsors  at  the  end  of  the  day  what  want?  They  want   money  and  will  feed  us  anything  to  get  these  dollars  that  will  keep  each  and   everyone  of  us  debilitated  and  standing  or  sitting  still  particularly  on  the  weekends.
  3. 3.   3   It’s  time  to  have  more  productive  weekends  as  a  family  unit  like  many  of  us   remember.  I  especially  have  fond  memories  because  every  weekend  whether  we   wanted  to  or  not  and  I  am  pretty  sure  many  can  relate  me  and  my  brothers  had  no   choice  everybody  went  together  as  a  family.  And  no  matter  sadly  where  I  have  live   in  the  United  States  I  find  it  almost  shameful  when  I  don’t  see  my  own  people   exposing  themselves  to  what  everyone  has  the  opportunity  to  enjoy.  That  cost   absolutely  nothing  and  that’s  spending  time  together.  People  continue  to  look  for   answers  through  movies  or  through  television  programs  and  life  classes,  which  is  a   great  thing.  But  the  answer  is  simple  it’s  time  to  get  back  to  the  grass  roots  of  things   which  means  packing  everybody  up  and  going  together.       I  remember  when  my  oldest  two  girls  Baseemah  and  Basidy  were  young  they  were   12  and  10  years  old  I  took  them  to  see  Spike  Lee’s  Malcolm  X  at  the  movie  theatre  in   1992  although  I  knew  they  probably  didn’t  want  to  see  it.  I  wasn’t  to  popular  at  the   beginning  of  the  day  but  they  enjoyed  the  movie  and  I  am  sure  they  still  remember   that  day.  We’ve  turned  into  a  generation  of  passive  Liberals  with  our  youth  and  lives   reality  will  soon  in  some  of  these  young  lives  be  difficult  to  deal  with.  Because  in  this   society  if  you’re  under  the  impression  that  you’ll  do  what  you  want  anytime  you   want  it’s  going  to  be  a  difficult  life.  It’s  imperative  that  we  develop  the  consciousness   of  children  at  a  young  age  and  not  welcome  these  passive  images  that  are   continuously  fed  to  them.       Truthfully  although  many  enjoy  them  video  games  are  even  passive  the  occupy  in  an   almost  trans  like  state  the  especially  under  developed  adolescent  mind  and  some   parents  attempt  use  it  as  a  parental  supplement.  The  only  thing  it  does  is  to  regulate   the  thought  process  making  most  that  participate  in  the  practice  everyday  either   reclusive  or  with  no  ability  to  realistically  deal  with  people  in  particularly  the  ones   they  can’t  control  with  the  press  of  a  button.  I  am  forever  thankful  for  not  only   having  had  adults  in  my  life  who  even  when  I  didn’t  want  to  always  made  sure  that  I   stayed  occupied  not  distracted  and  yes  there’s  a  difference.  Don’t  always  assume   that  just  because  a  child  is  quiet  that  all  is  well  and  without  even  checking  assume   that  they’re  always  engaged  in  productive  things  especially  on  the  internet.     Civil  rights  had  a  huge  influence  in  the  development  and  maturation  as  well  my   enlightenment  as  a  person.  It  taught  me  respect  and  it  also  at  a  young  age  provided   me  with  the  mental  fortitude  that  is  necessary  to  deal  with  sometimes  people  you’ll   be  confronted  with  in  your  lifetime  for  sure  when  mommy  and  daddy  aren’t  there   any  longer.  The  truth  is  not  many  have  your  best  interest  at  heart  and  many  of  our   children  aren’t  being  taught  to  rationally  be  able  to  distinguish  who  these   individuals  are  like  they’ll  surely  teach  in  other  cultures.       But  we’ll  surely  watch  these  insanely  none  productive  reality  television  shows  for   hours  at  a  time  without  even  taking  the  same  60  minutes  to  have  a  conversation   with  your  child  about  what’s  going  on  in  their  life  everyday.
  4. 4.   4   I  personally  sad  down  every  evening  with  my  youngest  two  daughters  Belise  and   Brittany  everyday  when  they  were  kids  in  grammar  school  with  no  noise  or   television  just  talking  about  there  day.     Once  when  she  was  only  about  5  years  or  so  Belise  told  me  about  some  man  who’d   daily  come  into  her  pre-‐k  class  room  during  nap  time  who  had  no  business  there.   Unbeknownst  to  the  man  the  next  day  I  and  my  then  wife  showed  up  while  he  was   right  in  the  classroom  he  was  the  teachers  boyfriend  but  had  no  business  there  at  all   and  had  been  warned  in  the  past  not  to  enter  the  building.   A  baby  that  was  only  5  years  old  had  the  presence  to  communicate  something  that   was  inappropriate.     But  before  I  totally  fall  off  track  I’ll  finish  with  this  it’s  time  to  bring  it  back  to  family   communication  and  you’d  be  surprise  how  even  a  family  that  sits  and  talks  together   often  knows  absolutely  nothing  about  the  everyday  activity  in  the  lives  of  each  other   especially  the  children.  Many  have  in  their  own  personal  lives  had  to  deal  with   something  they’ve  never  shared  with  anyone  when  they  were  young.  Opening  the   lines  of  communication  means  sometimes  shutting  down  the  lines  that  will  mean   absolutely  nothing  when  all  goes  wrong  because  of  neglect.       There  is  a  documentary  that  specifically  address  the  struggle  civil  right  from  1954  –   1985  called  Eyes  On  The  Prize  http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/eyesontheprize/   It  seems  as  if  the  further  we’ve  come  the  more  we’ve  moved  away  from  embracing   what  has  brought  us  here.  I  have  all  the  respect  in  the  world  for  other  cultures  who   will  use  these  same  degrading  times  as  a  source  of  sparking  empowerment  ensuring   that  it  never  happens  to  their  people  again.       Are  we  positive  that  this  won’t  happen  to  us  as  a  collective  people  again?    Have  we   allowed  our  lives  almost  to  be  considered  non-‐existent  because  the  question  has  to   be  asked  what  have  we  bridged  if  anything  at  all?  We’ve  come  from  a  struggle  to   video  but  sadly  our  children  will  start  in  this  documentary  unless  as  a  collective   people  we  re-‐invest  in  our  culture.     Respectfully,   THE  WHEEL  SPEAKS  ON  2013   (The  Way  Humanity/Hudson  Expects  Everyone  to  Live)
