The Fashion Choices of Princeton Students:
As part of a paper on consumer individuality, students from the Univer-
sity of Colorado, Boulder took pictures of Princeton University students
from two different eating clubs. These pictures were then shown to par-
ticipants, who were asked to identify what club students belonged to
and how unique their clothing was. The results were fascinating.

As Facebook becomes a public company Friday, trading at $42 per
share and valued at $116.6 billion, new data suggests the company’s

App Unclutters Twitter and Highlights Relevant Updates:
Thirst is a dedicated Twitter app that plans to change the way users
find and view tweets. The iPad app allows users to “rediscover” Twitter
by filtering and organizing updates that are more relevant. Users can
specify topics they want to follow and tweets are then arranged ac-

The $15B Facebook Privacy Class Action Lawsuit:
Facebook, which has now listed on NASDAQ, is set to make $16 bil-
lion if its share holds at the $38 price that it set yesterday - more if it
ends higher. Here’s a coincidence: that’s just north of the total amount
in damages ($15 billion) that a new class-action case is seeking against

A team of scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in
California, USA, have genetically engineered a harmless virus to con-
vert mechanical energy into electrical energy. The breakthrough-tech-
nology essentially means that an electronic device could be charged

New York-based creative Tyler DeAngelo has built 5th Ave Frogger,
which takes real-time traffic data and feeds it into a homage to the

2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the New York chapter of the Amer-
ican Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the nation’s premier professional

After the Marc Jacobs boutique in SoHo was hit by French graffiti art-
ist Kidult, Jacobs had the building photographed and turned the image
into a shirt. He tweeted: “Available now for $689. Signed by the artist,

Led Spheres Flowing Down a Japanese River:
As part of the recent Tokyo Hotaru Festival, 100,000 illuminated blue
LEDs were released in the Sumida River. The massive installation of
solar-powered spheres was meant to mimic a swarm of fireflies that
twisted and bobbed along the river by moonlight. The lights were later

Just in time for summer vacation, DraftFCB’s New York office has picked
up agency-of-record duties for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, which
operates SeaWorld and Busch Gardens. The work for the better part of

Jonathan Sackett is taking his digital chops to Ogilvy & Mather. After
14 months as chief digital officer at DDB in Chicago, Sackett is assum-
ing a North American role at Ogilvy: managing director of content
strategy. The position is new and designed to help marketers develop

Issey Miyake Upcycles Plastic Bottles into Elegant Origami Lampshades:
Issey Miyake exhibited his collection of upcycled lampshades for the
Italian lighting manufacturer Artemide, at the Milan Design Week.
These soft, flexible lampshades are made with a special fabric pro-
duced from recycled PET bottles. The innovative high-tech process re-
duces both energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 80%.

Hollwich and Kushner, principals of New York architecture office
HWKN has proposed a design that called for a massive framework of
scaffolding to support 1,555 square yards of a high-tech fabric coated
in a chemical solution of Titania Nanoparticles, which neutralize air-

Tourists Rewarded for Delivering Goods to Non-Profit Ventures Abroad:
A site called AngelMule, which is based in Australia, enables visitors to
set their current location and destination and search for posts by non-
profit organizations in need of goods. If a match is found, users can
