Make choices ON PURPOSE about what you will or will not prioritize
ACTIVITY – Check out this Wordle and pick out some words that are important to you, that you think represent your values. If you can’t see any that resonate, make up or use whatever pops into your mind. If you feel like it, jot down a few notes in your notebook or ILLUSTRATE these words for yourself.
How do YOUR values manifest themselves How have you honored one of your values in building your business? What businesses do you most respect for their choices in honoring values (or being family friendly)How has a business you respect benefited from respecting their own values in a way that led to their success?in decisions for your business?
Thou shalt not judge thyself or any woman for her level of ambition. When you make decisions about business, you should always be aware of the opportunity cost – that is, the value of the choice you didn’t take. If you weigh in the emotional, social, environmental AND economic values of a situation, you’ll recognize that not all “economically viable” options are truly giving better value. Come to your own comfort zone and live in awareness of your tradeoffs. Celebrate making the trade-offs that are right for YOU.
Let’s talk about goals now… what are some goals you have set for yourself, or are thinking about? What’s the timeline for those goals? How will the goals STRETCH YOU – and make you learn things or do things you’ve never done before? How will you support yourself, or gather resources to support you, as you stretch yourself?Put some work into each of these goals. What will it cost? How will it happen? How will it affect your business? Your family?NEVER sacrifice a goal that truly excites you because it seems like it will be too hard on your family. Just find another way – postpone it, alter it, redefine it – find some way to serve the same core value and yearning.
What is your “business zone” where you get to think about and act in the interests of your business, without conflicts?Do you have an office?Do you have specific hours of business?Do you have days that are business while others are not?Without the space for your business, it will not thrive. (Just like without making a date with your partner for sex, you ain’tgettin’ any).
