The project for the new connection between Costanera Norte and Autopista Central is part of the Santiago Centro Oriente plan, including in it the construction of Vivaceta tunnel, two lanes, improving the connectivity between both highways.
The Vivaceta tunnel, the most singular work of the project, has an approximate length of 600 m, including a shaft of about 21 m in depth (21x90 m) and the crossing under the Mapocho River in cut&cover with an approximate length of 42 m.
The excavation affects mainly to the gravels and boulders of the second and first deposition of the Mapocho River, and runs almost entirely under forepoling following NATM, full-face method in the most of its depth and with top heading and bench in singular areas of the tunnel.
