Fresno de Rodilla tunnel is part of the High Speed Railway from Madrid to País Vasco. This rail tunnel, which has a length of 5.250 m and twin tube type, is designed so that trains can run at a speed of 270 km/h with an aerodynamic section of 52 m2.
The tunnel will be excavated in marly claystones and marls with gypsum alternancies. The maximum overburden is 100 m and the construction method used has been fully mechanized by using of EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) with pre-cast concrete segments.
Finally, in order to allow a safety evacuation in case of emergency, cross passages have been designed every 500 m.

Spain El túnel de Fresno de Rodilla forma parte de la línea de alta velocidad Madrid-País Vasco. Este túnel ferroviario, que posee una longitud de 5.250 m, es de tipología bitubo y está diseñado para que los trenes puedan circular a una velocidad de 270 km/h. con una sección aerodinámica de 52 m2 . Los terrenos a atravesar son lutitas margosas y margas con alternancia de yesos y el recubrimiento máximo son 100 m. El método constructivo a emplear para la ejecución del túnel será completamente mecanizado mediante elempleodeunaEPB(EarthPressureBalanced)consistiendoelsostenimientoendovelasprefabricadas. El túnel cuenta además con galerías de conexión que unen los dos tubos para permitir la evacuación en caso de emergencia.
