Cheves Hydropower Project is located at Huaura River, between the settlements of Sayan and Churín (Perú). Cheves Hydropower Project will divert water from the Huaura and Checras rivers some 2 km upstream their confluence at an altitude of about 2.170 masl and back to Huaura River through the tailrace tunnel about 1.5 km downstream at elevation 1.548 masl.
This project has been done to use the Huaura´s river resources to generate energy with an installed capacity of 168 MW divided into two Pelton units utilizing the gross head of 599 m and a flow design of 33 m3/s.

  • 1. Asistencia Técnica al Proyecto Hidroeléctrico de la C.H. Cheves. Perú Technical Assistance to the Cheves Hydropower project. Peru. El proyecto de la Central Hidroeléctrica de Cheves se encuentra localizado en el río Huaura, entre los pueblos de Sayán y Churín (Perú). Esta central hidroeléctrica captará agua de los ríos Huaura y Checras a unos 2 km aguas arriba de su confluencia a una altitud de 2.170 msnm y lo retornará al río Huaura a través del túnel de descarga ubicado unos 1.5 km aguas abajo, a una altitud de 1.548 msnm. Este proyecto se realiza con el objeto de poder aprovechar los recursos hídricos del la cuenca del rio Huaura, para la generación de energía eléctrica con una potencia instalada de 168 MW dividido en dos turbinas Pelton utilizando un salto de 599 m y un caudal de diseño de 33 m3 /s. Se ha proyectado la construcción de los siguientes túneles: Túnel de transferencia: 2.580 metros Túnel de conducción: 9.915 m. Caverna: 31.5 x 15.5 x 62.7 m (alto x ancho x largo) Túnel de descarga: 3.700 m. Túnel de acceso a la caverna: 960 m. Túnel de ataque intermedio 1: 860 m. Chimenea de equilibrio: 697 m. Las unidades litoestratigráficas afectadas por el proyecto de la Central Hidroeléctrica Cheves están constituidas por la Formación Chimú (bancos de cuarcita con finas intercalaciones de estratos de arenisca cuarzosa, lutitas bituminosas y ocasionales lentejones carbonosos), el Grupo Casma (secuencias estratificadas de rocas volcánicas, principalmente andesitas, con intercalaciones de rocas sedimentarias), y Stock Churín Bajo (rocas intrusivas con composición tonalítica a cuarzo-monzonítica). The construction of the following tunnels has been projected: Transfer Tunnel: 2.580 meters. Headrace tunnel: 9.915 m. Power house: 31.5 x 15.5 x 62.7 m (high x wide x long) Tailrace tunnel: 3.700 m. Access tunnel: 960 m. Addit tunnel 1: 860 m. Surge Tunnel: 697 m. The lithotypes affected by the Cheves Hydropower Project are constituted by the Chimú Formation (quartzite banks with interbedded with thin quartzose sandstone strata, bituminous shale and occasional coal lenses), the Casma Group (stratified sequences of volcanic rocks, mainly andesites, with interbedded sedimentary rocks) and Churín bajo Stock (intrusive rocks with tonalite / quartz- monzonite composition). www.subterra-ing.com CHILE / CHILE PERÚ / PERU ESPAÑA / SPAIN
